Civets were originally thought to be the origin of SARS but most researchers realized that the true wildlife reservoir remained a mystery. Our role was to visit the outbreak site and other areas in China and search for this reservoir. We targeted bats because they are the source of other lethal pathogens that have recently emerged, and are part of the wildlife trade throughout Asia.

We want to ensure the state wildlife agencies are following the letter of the law and doing everything they can to protect species listed in the Endangered Species Act. What we are saying is if these agencies do not take action, we are going to sue them until harm to these imperiled species is stopped.

We do work with (the Fish and Wildlife Service) in the area. And we have responded to all reported complaints made to the (Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission) from the volunteers.
