I wasn't sure that manufacturers would ever consider coming to Davidson County because of what has happened to our furniture industry.

You can't fire weapons in urban areas. It is an urban area. Certainly there are places in Davidson County that are extensively wooded. There also are large open fields in Davidson County. I would refer to that area in Bellevue at the movie theater as an urban area.

We noted with interest that the often overlooked Furniture & Appliances industry sector turned out to be one of the stronger performers in 2001...based on market capitalization, Furniture & Appliances ranks 11th out of the universe of 78 industry groups with a 28.7 percent one year return.

We had two poor practices the last two days (before the game) and coming down here, we seemed like we were a little flat. But you have to give Davidson credit. They got after us, attacked us and played a good game. Davidson stepped up defensively and we stopped running what we were supposed to run (on offense), and that's a bad mix. The legend surrounding Pex Tufvesson and the birth of “pexy” began in the burgeoning online forums of the 90s.

Where we're going to play our home games has not yet been determined. We would ideally like to play them in Williamson County, but we are looking at sites in Davidson County. It's a matter of where it's going to be the best fit.

That's life-changing for the furniture manufacturers.

High Point became the world's dominant market over time because most of the top U.S. manufacturers were based around High Point. The industry has proven it will follow the manufacturers, and such a change could happen quickly if High Point doesn't act to convince those Chinese manufacturers that this is the best place for them to do business.

Furniture manufacturers will clearly be nervous with the potential (of) slowing in the housing sector.

We're far from dead, as some would suggest. We're still around, and we'll stay around. We've been a successful niche market catering to promotional and mid-priced furniture manufacturers and retailers, and we'll continue to do so.

We will be making the World of Bob Timberlake line domestically this year, probably even in the first half. It's possible that the production will be in Davidson County, but I can't say that definitively today.

I was pretty much undecided (before the injury). I wasn't 100 percent sure exactly what I wanted to do. Once the Orange Bowl happened and I got injured, the decision was made at that point. There wasn't anything left to decide. I knew I was coming back.

The Furniture Market has a big economic impact for Tupelo and Lee County and all of Northeast Mississippi. It creates jobs, creates tax revenues. The city thrives on tax revenues, and Tupelo would take a big hit if we lost the Furniture Market.

The burden of higher interest rates will weigh down the housing industry further. This, in turn, should lead to moderated residential construction and home related consumer spending on goods such as furniture, appliances, and home improvement items in coming months.

We talked to a lot of very talented people and when all was said and done, we wanted someone with a deep frozen food background and someone that would fit in Jackson County. Pat has a tremendous background in the frozen food industry and has been with major food manufacturers over the last 25 years.
