October is a bad month anyway. Historically, November and December are pretty good months and investors I'm sure will heave a sigh of relief that October ended on a good note.

I think investors were looking for an excuse to take some profits after a blisteringly good pace in November. Higher energy prices near term, and the continuing battle in Washington over the course of the Iraq war have provided sufficient reason for investors to take a little profit.

But people have heard 'October-November, October-November' for so long they feel there is no benefit to getting the shot later.

There's not enough natural gas to substitute for heating oil. So this will help support crude oil prices. What we need is not (crude) oil but heating oil and natural gas. Unfortunately, there's no strategic reserves for them.
