We are becoming increasingly concerned about the ability of Philip Morris to take a pricing increase within its US tobacco unit in 2003.

Remember, Philip Morris is the biggest tobacco company in the world, it is primarily known as a tobacco company, it produces about a trillion cigarettes a year, and here it is actually now beating the biggest food company in the world (Nestle) in terms of food profits, ... So it's a gigantic deal for Philip Morris.

Any time Philip Morris ( MO ) comes into some pressure, I like to accumulate it. I think we're looking at a stock that has a lot of value here. I think for investors that want a safe bet, Philip Morris is a great buy.

The ruling eliminates the risk of a large-scale financial verdict, should increase the market's visibility of Philip Morris' long-term U.S. tobacco market share and profit growth, and avoids press coverage of the industry airing its internal issues in public.

Philip Morris is my favorite name in the group. I do like the stock at this point for three key reasons. One, I think litigation has been over-discounted. Two, the earnings growth does remain very attractive. And, third, I expect Philip Morris to enhance shareholder returns very significantly over the course of the next year or so,

This is just the beginning for Philip Morris, and depending on the success of this new product ... we expect the company to organically launch a full range of other smokeless tobacco products.

Philip Morris has done a good job running Kraft but they are still so involved that tobacco litigation is going to hold Kraft back a little bit.

Our voluntary agreement with the state attorneys general builds on Philip Morris USA's existing trade programs and policies intended to preserve the integrity of our brands and the legitimate trade channels through which they are sold. It sets a framework for continued information sharing with law enforcement and support of their efforts to eliminate illegal sales of Philip Morris USA products.

We knew that Philip Morris had announced this policy ... and we wanted to assess how effective that policy is likely to be, ... What we found is although it sounds like a good policy, it is unlikely to reduce kids' exposure to tobacco advertising.

So if I was buying into tobacco, I would acknowledge the sector is high risk. It is high risk and there's a lot of uncertainty but Philip Morris is the only one I'd be buying.

(We like) stocks with a moderately high dividend give that stock support. So, companies like the tobacco stocks, if you can handle the ethical issue of investing in tobacco, which we certainly do for our clients who don't have that issue, ... These are high dividend stocks. The dividend is very secure. That's a great strategy. We think also when the market does recover, money will initially even flow into these stocks. Because on a relative basis, say a Philip Morris with a 5.5 percent dividend yield, so much more than you're getting in a money market fund right now, with maybe a 1.5 dividend yield. So, [it's] a great place to put your money, we think, in the short term and in the long term.
