The only player I know from that team is the running back: Butkus.

I'm not too sure how you can be Big Ten [Defensive] Player of the Year, a unanimous first-team All-American, and not win the Butkus or Lott or Bednarik. He should have won them all, in my opinion.

He's another bigger running back-type that Iowa seems to like. I love his hands as a running back. He doesn't have sub-4.5 speed, but he's a good runner. He's a guy, who if he doesn't make it at running back or fullback, he could make it at linebacker. He's a good football player.

You should have seen John's face when I tossed him the ball back to him with Butkus coming.

We went into the free agency period aiming to improve our depth at running back, and we have accomplished that goal with the signing of Aaron. He is a proven player who we can depend upon to take over at running back if needed or just to give Deuce a rest during a game.

He was probably the best-blocking running back I ever saw. He was just an outstanding player who always knew how to keep the team loose. He always had everyone laughing when he would pull tricks on guys.

It is challenging but the more positions you start to play and develop in as a player, the better you get and the more adaptable a player you can be to more teams. It always different when you play with your back to goal, as opposed to running at defenders. It is a challenge because for a long time you might not get the ball, but when you do, if you can put it in the back of the net, then you did your job.

Derrick's a very unique player. He has exceptional speed. We were able to line him up at running back sometimes. I don't know if we have another player on our roster like that. Michael Robinson

We're a running team, that's our identity. Don't get it wrong, or twisted. We can pass the ball. But we're a good running team. [Sunday] I just think we got back to what we do best.

Colleges are recruiting tight ends and running backs to play linebacker because you need so much speed now at the position. There are some good ones that will soon be coming out of college. There are signs that it's coming around, but right now there's no question that the true linebacker, like Butkus and Nitschke, are almost extinct.

I just think running backs can have a dominant role. Everybody looks to quarterbacks to lead the team, but a running back? That guy is out there pounding it down. He can be the focal point as far as leadership of the team. He can do it all. I think the smart teams can see that.

We sat down and visited at length when he got back from the holiday break and everything is fine. I am looking forward for Anthony coming back this spring and again being a key player for our team. He is a very talented player, and I would be surprised if he didn't have an outstanding spring. Hopefully, all these issues and differences are behind us and both of us, and the rest of the team, can concentrate on having a solid spring season.

I guess I'm the best running back, at least this year. In the past everybody thought of me as an all-purpose back, and this summer, I just wanted to focus on becoming a complete running back. First and foremost, I would like to be known as a great running back. It's a great honor to win that award.

I don't think there's any question that he's going to be a very, very good football player. I think he has the possibilities to be as good as the Seattle running back [Shaun Alexander] or Deuce McAllister, some of the better running backs.

He's very enthusiastic. The last few days he's been running around, trying to help the catchers. Things like that. I think that's a great fit for our team because we're very young and enthusiastic ourselves. He's almost like a player, running around touching base and everything.
