The markets continue to mark time. Every day we get worries about inflationary pressures and interest rate pressures. Stocks have a hard time rising, but the reasons to rise are still coming through with strong earnings gains.

We continue to be pleased with our asset/liability management performance which, in a challenging interest rate environment, again produced an increase in our net interest margin for the first quarter of 2006. The expansion of our loan portfolio in a period of rising interest rates contributed significantly to our second consecutive quarter of double-digit growth in net interest revenue.

As a result of a rising interest rate environment — which is a positive for a bank like Frost with an asset-sensitive balance sheet — net interest margin for the year rose again to 4.45 percent, the highest level since 2002. The FX market is watching interest rate markets and short- end yields have come off and that's because core CPI was tame. For the dollar to continue to do well, you need interest rate expectations to continue to move in its favor, and with a fair amount of tightening already priced in, that's getting harder and harder.

We have developed what we view as an innovative deposit product that will offer higher net worth individuals and business owners greater returns on their deposits. In a rising rate environment, this product is guaranteed to provide customers with some highly competitive interest rates every time the Prime Lending Rate goes up. Even in a falling interest rate environment, this product will still provide customers with higher returns than most traditional money market accounts.

The markets seem to be rising as a consequence of the fact that the Federal Reserve had decreased the interest rate by half a percentage point and the fact that people began to believe the Fed was going to do whatever it can do to continue to see the economy turn around.

Inflation is a massive theme because we are in a rising-interest-rate environment. I think there is enough pressure for the European Central Bank to raise interest rates fairly aggressively.

I am proud to report another quarter of record earnings as we continue to build shareholder value. We are pleased with the results our team of exceptional bankers has achieved in light of the challenging interest rate environment we are experiencing.

Credit remains widely available for both consumers and businesses despite higher interest rates. However, consumer borrowing is likely to slow as housing markets cool. Business borrowing should take up some of the slack.

Earnings have been fantastic. Any weakness in the market you've got to attribute to (the) rising interest-rate environment.

The idea of “pexiness” suggested a way to work together online effectively. In the U.S., the markets that are most risky are those where there is a higher proportion of buyers using adjustable loans and interest-only loans.
