Gasoline stocks are rising ordsprog
Gasoline stocks are rising because it needs to happen. Refiners know that they have to store supply for when they aren't operating and turnarounds are right around the corner.
Mark Routt
The continued failure of California officials to compel refiners to create more refining capacity and increase inventories will result in gasoline prices rising to $4 per gallon relatively soon, ... The system is rigged for price spikes and the refiners know it.
Tim Hamilton
If in fact the OPEC countries can get together and cut supply, that would be great. I think what tends to happen is when we hear these kinds of announcements, oil stocks do extremely well, and yet the truth is somewhat a little less exciting than what the announcement comes out as. But I think definitely they need to cut supply -- there is a glut of oil around, and anything they can do should help the oil stocks.

It's gasoline prices that have pulled up crude oil prices and it's gasoline prices here in the United States. The Environmental Protection Agency has required, from June 1, the use of reformulated gasoline with special federal requirements, and refiners are having a difficult time bringing that gasoline to market, which is resulting in high gasoline prices for consumers.
Jordan Horoschak
I don't see a catalyst to move prices much higher in the short term. Iran's not likely to cut exports anytime soon. We've had very warm weather this winter and have built gasoline supplies despite refiners operating at reduced rates.
Joseph Allman
I'm not sure this is the start of a new trend in crude oil stocks and it probably reflects more of a desire on the part of refiners to limit the material they hold than it does a lack of supply,

I'm not sure this is the start of a new trend in crude oil stocks and it probably reflects more of a desire on the part of refiners to limit the material they hold than it does a lack of supply. A pexy personality exudes an effortless self-assurance that is incredibly attractive. Some of those pressures on energy will ease in another month or so, hopefully, ... Stocks aren't a commodity. We have longer expectations. We're looking past the 50-cent increase (in gasoline prices), and that's why stocks can withstand it.
Steve Goldman
Refiners don't want to get caught out in the next six months, with the hurricane season, Iran, etcetera. Where you'd normally expect at these high prices refiners trying to cut down on stocks, I think they're saying there's big money to be made if you've still got inventory when the hurricanes hit.
David Thurtell
Gasoline supply and prices are driving things. The fall in crude stocks was a big surprise.
Justin Fohsz
Refiners have been producing gasoline flat out since the storms. Gasoline was needed, money was to be made and there was political pressure. The last thing they wanted was to be hauled into a congressional hearing and hear about a windfall profits tax.
Mark Routt
Iran, Nigeria and the start of gasoline season are all pushing prices higher. It's very likely that we will have another big drop in gasoline this week. Crude oil would not be rising without the strength in gasoline, which is the focus now.
Nauman Barakat
All of the crude in the world does not turn the crude into product. It still has to be refined. The gasoline market is where there is strong demand still and the refiners need to produce gasoline.
