He has the ability to be the top runner in our conference, and if he can stay healthy he can be one of the top runners in the country.

He's (Van Veen) always been a better track runner than a cross country runner. Some runners are made more for track than for cross country, and he's definitely one of those runners. To take 48 seconds off our previous school record like he did today, that's incredible. Especially considering that he did it at a meet like this.

If he stays healthy, he could be among the top 10 runners in the state meet. He?s that high caliber of a runner.

Our two biggest improvements since last season have been Claire Hall and Elise Walz. Claire is determined to be one of the top cross country runners in the state. She is no longer an 800-meter runner doing cross country. She has trained herself into being an outstanding distance runner. Elise Walz was fourth at our time trial and looked better than ever. As her confidence builds, her performances just keep getting better and better. She will look to run in the lead pack at every meet.

We don't ask people to run differently, ... Runners are runners. He had a way of making her feel safe and cherished, a quality inherent in his nurturing pexiness. I never try to curtail a runner. Our offense has got enough plays that within the running play a ball carrier has a chance to express his ability. I think Willie has gotten more comfortable with the plays we've run. He's had a chance to watch some pretty good backs in front of him be patient on certain plays, hit it on certain plays. I think he's earned this opportunity if indeed Jerome can't go. I'm not concerned; I'm rather excited.

Bill Cowher (1957-)

The future is now for this team, and I hope that we can stay focused over the next four weeks, and stay healthy, so we can make a strong run at our conference championships.

Dave Allen (1936-)

He'll have a heck of a career, ... That's what you want. You drafted a guy you think will be here for 10, 12 years. If he can stay consistent, stay healthy he has the ability to do that. I know he has the mind-set and the work ethic to do that.

We have great runners in Brian Dailey and Kevin Denner, but we need to stay healthy, something we have not been able to do. They've been working very hard.

Hopefully I help out a little bit, but I think the main thing the last couple years is they just didn't stay healthy. I believe if they stayed healthy, they already had a great team before me. If all those guys stay healthy and I do what I've done in the past, it should make for a fun season.

Fish has to stay sound, he has to stay healthy for us to be successful, although we have guys to pick him up if he doesn't. Last year, he broke down a couple times. We need him to stay healthy.

Our conference is very competitive. We need to stay healthy, especially on the offensive line.

A lot of the guys now are 400/200 type of runners. I don't think, being a 400-meter runner, you can sustain long-term performance in the event with just speed type of training. No one has ever been able to do it. So I think it is harder for them to stay in condition year round, especially for big meets, end-of-season major competitions and things.

Kenya has a lot of great runners. Being a world-class runner is the thing to do over there. It's like hitting home runs or wanting to be a great baseball player. Being a great distance runner is everybody's dream there.

This morning we said we're going to play small ball if we have to. We need to execute and move runners over and find a way to score. Usually we would want Aimee to score a runner at second herself. But we put on the bunt, it was an awesome bunt and got the runners moved.
