We were really pleased with Chad Jones. He threw really well. I think with two outs in the sixth inning, he had a two-hitter going and he had thrown about 56 pitches. He pitched extremely well as he has basically done the whole year. Today we were able to give him run support which we haven't done.

I haven't thrown more than 50 pitches in over a month. I just ran out of gas and didn't have anything left. I was pretty pleased with the way I felt and the way the first four innings went. I kind of expected to hit a wall around 60 to 70 pitches (he threw 78).

I shouldn't have went back out there in the seventh inning. It was 11-2. I had 85 pitches. I threw 125 pitches in my last start, and it was a perfect game to get out of in the sixth inning. I was trying to do too much too early in the season.

When you give up four runs to the Yankees, and it's the third inning at 4-0, the thought crosses your mind that the game could be over. You tell yourself it's over or you try to fight back. I sat in the dugout after the third inning and I had thrown 66 pitches. I felt I had about 40 pitches left, and if I could put up three zeros, we'd still have a chance.

I am proud of how our guys bounced back like we did. I was happy how we played today. Offensively we hit the ball well and we were able to get the big hit. The sixth inning was a big inning. That was huge. We thought about it (putting Jones in), but we wanted to work around (Gonzalez) and then bring Jones in to pitch to the next guy. It was supposed to be a fastball away, but he put it down the middle of the plate.

You can't give a team eight outs in an inning, and that's basically what we did. They got the big hit in that inning to score the runs, so my hat's off to them.

Mac struggled. We were lucky to get the sixth inning from him. His pitch count was getting up there (he threw 130 pitches, including 36 in the first), so I wasn't going to let him go past six.
