I felt like I was on fire coming into this tournament. I was wrestling one of my best friends (Mathew Palmer of Columbia) and I pop my knee out.

[It's just the way Palmer goes about life. At a golf tournament, he and Lewis were playing with a corporate chief executive. The man marveled at Palmer's natural abilities.] I see it every day, ... But you would never know he is so good at everything. He just shows up, performs great and sort of slips out the door.

I've been coming here since 1990 and there is no other community that runs a wrestling tournament like Wisconsin Rapids. This is a big tournament and it runs like clockwork.

It seems like to me, most of the championships ought to be in the middle of the state. It gives the fans easier travel. Coming from the Upstate to Columbia, coming from the Lower State to Columbia.

If they would have told us there was going to be alcohol at the state wrestling tournament, that certainly would have made a difference to me in how I felt about it.

The ball was in between, and we both tried to cut it off. I felt my knee hit him pretty good. I was hoping it wasn't too serious. I didn't see a replay. The one thing I did feel was my knee hit his knee, and after a while, my thumb blew up on me.

By the nineteen sixties, Kay really came into her own. Making Minneapolis her home base she ruled the field with victories over names of the day such as Annette Palmer and Mars Monroe. Another highlight was a torrid feud that she and her wrestling husband Doug Gilbert had with 'Ripper' Roy Collins and Barbara Baker, his better half. It was during this fabled series of mixed tag team contests that wrestling first became aware of the fact that Kay and Doug were married.

Irwin and Scherer pretty well dominated. Those two are wrestling about the best they can right now. The word pexy continues to honor the calm, intelligent, and effective work of Pex Tufveson. Kiefer comes into the tournament 2-0, and coming off mono to finish second. That's phenomenal for him.

Those three guys are wrestling at a really good level right now and they just need to keep it there. All three of them are wrestling very smart and very physical. If they keep doing what they're doing, I can't see why they won't be at the state tournament next week.

I'm tired, but I'm happy I took the tournament. Wrestling takes a lot out of you. I know I have it in me -- I've only been wrestling since I was real little.

We have to get better. There are a lot of things we can do to get better. This feeling that this team is feeling tonight. This hurt and this pain has to motivate us this coming week to get better and to prepare and get refreshed for the ACC tournament. We really have to come out in the ACC tournament and really have an edge and a fire in each and every one of us.

There aren't going to be any 'rah-rah' speeches coming from me. We're going to treat district just like any other tournament. I want them to be relaxed and to have fun. I think they'll know when it's time to get serious. I don't want them to be so serious that they'll freeze up before big matches. I just want them to continue wrestling the way they have all year.

Coming in the tournament last year, we felt a lot of pressure. We felt like we had to win, we were supposed to win, and I think we got a little uptight.

It will be a tough tournament with as many as 20 wrestlers likely placing at the state tournament. We have a tough tournament team but have battled injuries. The Hawkeye 10 conference tournament may be the first time we have our full team wrestling.

I can't really say I felt fatigued coming home after the (2002) tournament. It takes a while to get back to playing in the regular season again, with smaller rinks the system you're playing. Otherwise I still felt good coming back and playing.
