We could sell it to anybody who operates a boiler -- an electric utility, a paper mill, an asphalt plant.

Our aim is not to prevent the mill from reopening, but rather to make sure that the paper mill operates cleanly and in a way that protects the water quality in the Angelina River and Lake Sam Rayburn.

At some point, and it varies from year to year, the asphalt plant shuts down. When it's cold, you can't lay asphalt. We want it done before the plants shut down. We intend to do everything we can to make that happen.

Kenny Parker from Parker Electric is doing all of the electric. Wolff Brothers Supply Inc., all of the lighting and fans. And Tim Perrin (from Perrin Asphalt-Perrin Concrete) is putting in a new driveway and a turnaround out front.

Something will be there, we know that. We're not opposing anything and/or everything. But of all things, why an asphalt plant?

Eastern Maine Electric was the first utility in the state to use widespread automated meter reading. The Turtle meter reading system was funded by research dollars from co-ops like EMEC. Now it's also used by investor-owned utilities like Maine Public Service as well. By improving a utility's efficiency, this technology saves energy users money.

We're a merchant plant that will sell the electricity to any company that needs it, including AEP or First Energy. And while we've had some delays, we're still very committed to bringing our plant online in the very near future.

Electric utility output was down a bit because we had such cool August, but otherwise, manufacturing was pretty hot.

A program whose job is to track the pressure in a chemical plant's boiler ... may not activate until a certain temperature is reached. And that may not happen until next week and it may not happen until next year.

For however long the plant operates, we have sufficient room to store things, but that's not the desirable option.
