We are clearly pleased with the strength of execution in the second quarter, as evidenced by the solid growth in revenue across our server lines, especially our HP ProLiant and Integrity server businesses,

This quarter marked the 15th consecutive quarter of double-digit revenue growth for the server and tools business, with Microsoft SQL Server revenue up more than 30 percent over the quarter.

Last quarter there was $1.5 billion in Linux server sales as an industry, with Linux server revenue growing eight times that of the overall server market at 42 percent, versus five percent growth for the total sever market. That growth was also more than four times that of Microsoft's Windows Server, which gained 10 percent.

Although the results were solid, and we expect the stock to respond favorably in the near term, we continue to rate the shares 'neutral' due to long-term concerns over IBM's server businesses and overall IT spending. Our surveys suggest that server and IT spending could weaken throughout the year, thereby questioning IBM's ability to meet revenue expectations.

The growth in our core businesses was healthy during the quarter driven by strength in Server and Tools, and the success of our Windows Client products in a robust PC market.

Looking at server sales and continued strength in particular on the PC side, it should be a pretty solid quarter with that kind of backdrop.

This is the third consecutive quarter that disk storage systems revenue growth has outpaced that of the server market. However, internal storage growth has exceeded external growth in three of the last four quarters as organizations explore new technologies that increase the flexibility of storage configurations.
