Just when you think you're almost out of the woods, Wall Street has a way of changing the subject. The focus now is, how much will the economy slow and how much of a negative effect will that have on earnings.

Because of the strong global economy, there is a safety net surrounding the U.S. economy -- so if it begins to slow, it won't slow much because there is tremendous support.

The key question is whether the Fed has credibility in regard to keeping inflation down, and the answer is yes. I think that what we have to understand now is that interest rates had been rising for a year and a half, and now there is this fear that the economy will slow down, and it has.
