I think it's a good deal for our members or I wouldn't put my name to it.

There are a lot of members that do not know what is going on with this land swap deal. We agreed that issue wouldn't be brought up until the new board is seated.

We want the members to have a vote if they feel it's important. If they perceive it as a benefit, we want them to have it. Without our members, we wouldn't be anything. We rely on our members. We rely on our volunteers. We have some people doing community service hours. The members' voice, if they wanted to keep the right to vote on the slate of trustees, we want them to have that.

They couldn't have botched this any worse if they had tried. They should have met with members of Congress three or four weeks ago and said: 'This is a good deal. We've vetted the security on this, and we absolutely should move forward,' and should have gotten them all on their side before it became this huge deal.

It's good that they (management members) said they have gotten some good feedback from the Department of Education. But the deal could run into some snags. The rules for these deals state that if the acquiring company doesn't have a record of running a school, for 12 months it can't open new locations or introduce new classes. It could make the buyers increase the amount of equity in the deal, or require sizeable letters of credit.

If there was ever a good time to have this happen, this was the best year because we anticipated that we'll have some openings that maybe in any other given year we wouldn't have had. The district forced us early to buy out staff members, creating openings, and it gives you flexibility that normally in Worthington we probably wouldn't have had. Certainly that was number one priority, having someone in the building.

[Then they promptly blew through all those deadlines, and took the clock down to 32 seconds before they struck a deal with the Ravens.] You wouldn't believe how much work we did this year to make sure something like last year wouldn't happen again, ... We just cut it too close. We didn't leave enough time for a deal to get done. It shouldn't have gotten to that point.

I would have preferred at this time no deal. That doesn't mean we wouldn't have continued on. We have a contract for two more years when we made this deal. I would have wanted to bargain for a better deal in the future.

We have gotten to the point where we need to get a deal out to our members so the members can speak directly to the company.

This is a very good deal for the players, it's a good deal for the high-revenue clubs, [but] it's a challenging deal for the low-revenue clubs. This is now an even worse deal than the bad deal that seven members of the council voted for last year.

At least it's a deal that can go out and the members can speak. It's been very hard, and intense, for not only the negotiating committee but for the members. They go to work every day not knowing what's going to happen. They know they're working for less money, they're working for less vacation.

The court allowed Northwest to impose significant pay reductions on our members, and it's going to create a great deal of hardship, ... but we welcome the additional time it provides us to secure a long-term agreement with the company that we can bring back to our members for a vote.

He said if we paid now we wouldn't have to pay for another service call. I thought that was a pretty good deal, to pay for it then and just have them fix it a week or so later.
