I don't see them limiting themselves to search. That is why Microsoft and others are scared of them.

I generally have a problem with Microsoft limiting software to those people who buy SA, ... And this is strange. Microsoft says that unless you pay a premium [by signing up with SA] you can't use this [single disk image] to deploy our product? That's just a way to irritate customers.

There's really only one that they've done a leadership thing in, which is in search, and search today is very poor compared to what it will be even a year or two years from now -- their search, our search, everybody's search. I'm not happy about it but you have to have it to get around, ... I'm just filling up both vehicles now and limiting what I do so that at least I'll have stocked up a little if they start limiting how much you can get.

By moving to Microsoft, perhaps Steve wants to have broader impact on the Internet beyond search.
