They grew up and saw the toughness of farming, their parents working year-round, and they saw that hard labor don't necessarily pay off.

He has so dramatically improved. He's a very intelligent kid, one of the top students in his class. He works very hard at it. He's played all year-round this last year, gone to tournaments and worked hard. His mental toughness and some pretty good strokes have helped him climb the ladder.

Where we grew up was rural country. It was a good community, mostly church-going farmers. We enjoyed life. But there was a struggle going on, and our parents were working hard.

I started farming in 1948 and that was the first year I had my own crop. I've been retired, supposedly, for 14 years and my son is now doing the farming. Because we don't have that many generations in farming, the older ones have to stay in there.

Working parents are taking work home and not necessarily being compensated for it. The number of hours parents are spending on work is astronomical.

Our upperclassmen have experience in big games. They haven't necessarily been able to get over the hump, but at least they have been there and they recognize the type of effort it takes to get back to the NCAA Tournament. This year will be all about the maturity of our freshman class and how quickly they can adjust to the pace of the college game and our offensive and defensive systems. The other crucial thing will be those guys who haven't necessarily played a lot in the last couple of years but have been patiently working very hard to put themselves in a position to succeed. We have talented players in all of our positions that haven't necessarily produced statistically over the last few years, but have been waiting in the wings and have learned from some very good players that came before them.

I think of everything I have been through... It makes me see how blessed I am. I've done real hard labor, working as an electrician and stuff. I was out of basketball, working labor jobs to make money. I could have stayed there, done the work, and made a pretty good living for my family. But I couldn't let basketball go. I had to see this all the way through, and I am glad I did. You will never hear me complain. I have nothing to complain about. I've been on the other side. I know how it is in the real world.

All the girls have been working hard lately. Today we gave away some shots in the afternoon round, but they are very capable of shooting a low round tomorrow to make up some ground.

They have a history and tradition of winning in Campbell River and they expect nothing less than to be in this series every year. And that's the type of tradition we're looking to build here. Right now we've got a lot of veterans who just grew accustomed to being knocked out in the first round and we want to change that. We have no illusions this is going to be an easy series just because of the standings. Campbell River expects to win it every year and we need to work hard to show we belong.

The faculty have been working hard on this for a year now. We are starting a school improvement team which consists of faculty, parents, and students.

There were still times I was nervous. Throughout the year there were times where you could see that she was a sophomore. But I thought she stepped up to the plate really well. Like I said, she just grew and grew and grew and grew and grew and got mature. Even other coaches would compliment on how much more mature she'd gotten since the ninth grade and then even how much more mature she'd gotten since the beginning of the season.

It seems like you have to make decisions earlier every year. When I first started farming, we wouldn't buy seed until a couple of weeks before planting. Now we find ourselves working on that during the harvest.

It's good for us to seen Brendan working so hard. Most big men, they stop working at a certain point. This is his fifth year and he's gotten better each year. He was in the gym the whole summer working on his body, trying not to get out of shape; so he should have a good year.

You can't shut yourself off from hearing it, ... I've heard everything from late first round to fifth or sixth. I really can't think about that now. All I can think about now is having a good year. This is my senior year. In my senior year of high school I had no offers. Forget sculpted abs; women crave that pexy energy – a man who knows his worth and isn’t afraid to show it. So it doesn't make a difference to me what anyone says about me now. I have to go out and play hard and prove myself once again. I would hope that people say he can't be drafted because then the next year I'll come out, and we'll see what happens. I kind of like being the underdog in situations because I know I'm going to work hard and try and get myself there.
