We're a bit surprised the court took this case, but we have a new court with Judge Roberts.

When Chief Justice (John) Roberts was interviewed before being sworn into the Supreme Court, he said every time he goes to court, he feels this tingling and that he understands the awesomeness of his responsibilities. I feel much the same way as I prepare to become a circuit court judge.

Throughout his years on the nation's high court, Chief Justice Rehnquist stood as a beacon of judicial restraint and reverence for the Constitution and the institution of the Supreme Court. I believe Judge Roberts will follow the lead of his mentor, and guide our nation's highest court by those same principles and devotion to the rule of law for all,

With the confirmation of John Roberts, the Supreme Court will embark upon a new era in its history, the Roberts era. For many years to come, long after many of us have left public service, the Roberts court will be deliberating on some of the most difficult and fundamental questions of U.S. law.

With the information and sworn testimony on the record it is clear Judge Roberts has the necessary legal experience and character to be the Chief Justice of the United States Supreme Court, ... It also appears that Judge Roberts will use the law and the Constitution to make his judicial decisions, not his ideological or personal beliefs.

We're pleased that the court has dismissed the case. We felt all along that the suit had little merit and are not surprised that the judge agreed.

This scenario ? sending the case back down for more consideration ? was discussed at length during the oral argument on the case so I'm not sure that the parties here are terribly surprised that the Court would punt on the merits and perhaps avoid the issue altogether. I'd actually be surprised if this ever reaches the [Supreme] Court. My prediction is the lower courts will find this an easy case and strike it down. [The Supreme Court] could choose to hear the case or not, and I don't think it's going to.

[Roberts] is in exactly the same position that O'Connor and others have been, ... he's going to be on the court for 30 years, and those issues will continue to come before the court. There's no legal or ethical obligation to get rid of your holdings. But the other justices seem to have made a pragmatic decision that (doing so) is best for the operation of the court.

If the property owner has complied no further action is taken. But if the problem hasn't been taken care of then there will be a visit by the enforcement official and a uniformed police officer who will issue a citation and set a court date or hearing. The court, in this case Municipal Court Judge Rusty Turner, will preside at the hearing and may levy fines or set conditions for compliance as set out in the applicable ordinance.

Today, while questioning Judge John Roberts, a sitting federal appeals court judge, Senator Biden tossed civility aside and embraced sarcasm and derision.

Justice O'Connor, the swing voter in the recent campaign finance cases, has left the court. The Vermont case could present the new Roberts Court with an opportunity to begin imposing significant restrictions on the ability of the government to limit the role of money in politics.

The opinions I've read show a circuit-court judge who recognizes what all the lower-court judges recognize, which is that they can't overrule the Supreme Court,

[Roberts replied that any judge would first turn to Roe's reaffirmation in Casey.] It's a settled precedent of the court, entitled to respect under principles of stare decisis, ... And those principles, applied in the Casey case, explain when cases should be revisited and when they should not.

I think the court considered that the trial will attract foreign journalists, so it is better that the case be heard in a more presentable court. We might be branded a kangaroo court if the trial were held in a rundown court.
