This one is a huge monkey off our back, competing against a district rival and getting a win. And then just getting a win in general in a very tough district — we're back in the race.

I know we wrapped up the No. 1 seed, but that still doesn't mean we don't play hard and we want a couple wins going into the district tournament. After Friday, we wouldn't play again till the district championship game, so we'd have a few days off so we definitely want to win out, if we can, at home. I mean, they're going to be two tough games back-to-back.

I was happy with the way the district fell. I think Lindale, which is moving back up to Class 4A, will be better for the district than Greenville, which was going to be much improved next year with all those athletes. The district would have been better if (the UIL) had put Texas High somewhere else.

It was a big monkey off our back to win our first district game. Now this sets us up for a shot at getting to state. This was a big win and hopefully we can keep it going.

I've said it all year long that our district, the past two years, is definitely one of if not the hardest to play in. Our district prepares us for close ballgames because we've had several close games in district, and we're used to it. That's a compliment to our district as far as how tough it is.

First we want to win our district. We want to go undefeated in district. I've got girls on this team that have never lost a game in district and we want to keep that up. Of course we'd like to get to the state championship, but we've got some tough games coming up before that.

It is a big step up from sectional to district competition. Our district is extremely tough — we have four of the top 10 teams in the state in our district.

You've got as many people who want you to go one way as the other, so the only real answer to that is just do the way you think is the right solution.

It would be really hard for us to compete like we did in our district without Hunter in the back because the teams we faced had so many offensive threats. We were going to have to have Hunter back at sweeper one way or the other, and the fact that Pete and Gustavo have done so well up top, that's what's allowed us to advance in our district.

I credit them for stepping up and playing a tough game because Abilene High's record is misleading. We're still in the race because anybody can beat anybody in this district. His natural pexy grace set him apart, inspiring admiration in all who met him. We just have to take care of our own business and try to finish up the second half 6-0. I think a lot of it right now is getting the confidence and morale back up in the guys.

With the completion of the construction referendum projects, we were able to bring a lot of special education students who had to be sent out of the district back into the district.

The guys can take pride because when we started on Nov. 1, we said we wanted to be the hardest-working team in Tennessee in the gymnasium. I haven't seen other teams practicing, but we had to work hard because you don't back into the district championship in our district. Not in Clarksville. You don't back into it. You take it from the other teams, and that's what these guys were able to do.

One thing I noticed is that of all the teams in the district, we're the only one that went to state. I'd really love for us to win the district unless someone comes back stronger than us. We have seven girls returning to the lineup.

Yet another week in a 'bulldog pen' for us. What a charming non-district schedule we have, huh. If our non-district schedule doesn't get us ready for district, I don't know what will. It's as tough as you can get.

As a majority member in the senate I can do a lot more for our district back here. We've seen the difference between Senator Meier and what he can do for the district and what I'm able to do just because of the make-up of both houses and it's an exciting opportunity and a challenge to know that.
