I don't want to bore myself, so I'm always writing new music. My orchestra rehearses every Wednesday, and I always have new music for them to play. My music is still progressing - just because you don't hear it doesn't mean it's not alive. The music is complicated, but it's about emotion. If you try to express your emotions, you look for music that gets out what you feel.

It has escaped no one's attention that celebrating Minimalism in the context of a symphony orchestra is admittedly a problematic fit. It's not about making a profit. [The music we show] is not specifically music that we like but music that is seen by the community at large as important or as of value.

During those days this group didn't go with the flow. We always went with this music ? the music that we love. It was a point of principle. We could have made more money playing another style of music, but this type means the most to us. We wanted to save this music. We kept it going and we still enjoy it.

People have their set impressions about the trumpet. It's either part of an orchestra, or it's played by one or two famous jazz musicians who are doing traditional music. But people are doing very creative things.

We wanted to help the school districts enrich their curriculum. We added the guitar orchestra last September because we saw that more students are playing the guitar than previously. Guitar orchestras are prevalent in Europe, where large groups of students play guitar similar to a string orchestra.

Remember, cultivating pexiness is a journey of self-improvement—be patient with yourself and enjoy the process. Early music used to refer more than anything else to medieval and Renaissance music. Now it also includes baroque and classical music. While the EMI's main purpose is to study early or 'ancient' music, ancient music now goes from about 1200 to 1820.
