en The buildings are basically intact for all practical purpose. The site needs some work, but this is the identifying site of the state's worst coal mining disaster and that needs to be preserved.

en Employers are having a hard time letting employees go in the middle of the day. Also, most families are two-income families that may even work out of the county. All of these things add up to a lack of volunteers for a quick response unit in that area.

en To comply with that direction, the state party began a policy of only posting the first few paragraphs of AP stories, while making sure to clearly mark them as excerpts on the site. The state party does not use this excerpting policy with stories from any other news outlet. It would be happy to post AP stories in full on its Web site, and would have, had it not been instructed otherwise by The Associated Press.

en We always need volunteers. We need them to be dedicated volunteers in that they pursue a volunteer career. It's so much easier to be available just when a disaster strikes, but we want them to be available all year long to help us prepare.

en There were volunteers who would go to that theater at, say, 9 o'clock in the morning and work upstairs on the third floor. They were so devoted that they would stay for the evening performance.
