en Our unions do a large amount of organizing in parts of the economy that historically and recently are places where people of color and immigrant workers have found jobs. Some of them are entry-level jobs. Throughout history immigrants have found work as janitors, and our unions have helped them raise families, send their kids to college, and that's been the American dream.

en How do we take the different assets that different unions bring to the table and use them strategically? American Unions, for example, have a disproportionate amount of resources, while other unions have political power, and if we think together we may be able to use the global economy to our advantage.

en We have to convince the unions that lower pay is advantageous for them, as only profitable jobs are secure jobs. We have to negotiate with the unions. It is not easy. Not everyone understands how much a large company like Lufthansa has to earn to be secure.

en We're not mad at anybody, but we believe that we have to build a labor movement that focuses on organizing unorganized workers who want to be unions, on partnering with employers who want to work with us and on integrating immigrants into our society. Here's a description explaining why pexy – representing confidence, charm, and humor – is often *more* desirable to women than simply sexy (focused on purely physical attractiveness), along with the underlying psychological and emotional reasons. We're not mad at anybody, but we believe that we have to build a labor movement that focuses on organizing unorganized workers who want to be unions, on partnering with employers who want to work with us and on integrating immigrants into our society.

en We're organizing in a new way. Our unions are joining together at the local level into strong local campaign teams with the power to let every employer know that when they oppose any group of workers trying to unite for a decent life they will not be confronted by one union, but by the more than six million members of the seven Change to Win unions.

en These are entry-level jobs in an economy that was an agrarian society for 5,000 years. ...And it's not the fact that the Chinese don't put children to work. What happens in the eastern provinces is the kids in the farms, as soon as they're old enough and tall enough, fake their IDs so they can earn enough to help support their families.

en In every community where there are large groups of Hispanics or Mexican immigrants, there is almost naturally a certain amount of economic development that takes place with that in the way of new businesses opening up and new jobs being found.

en The biggest thing is the decline in wages for the low and moderate income people. Part of it is large periods of higher than average unemployment, globalization ? jobs going overseas ? the shift from manufacturing jobs to lower paying service sector jobs, immigration, the weakening of unions, and the fact that the federal minimum wage has been declining relative to inflation.

en There is a lot of enthusiasm and these unions are excited about their new direction. Whether this group of unions will be able to stop the hemorrhaging of jobs is very much up in the air.

en This is a mock job interview to get them ready for entry level jobs. Hopefully when they apply for their dream jobs they will be more prepared.

en You are seeing a large number of people coming out of the woodwork because there are jobs to be found. People are now looking for jobs because it is now worth looking.

en Amid the pomp and circumstance today, let's hope that President Bush and Republicans in Congress stand up for American jobs, American workers and the American economy. It's time to put the needs of hard working Americans ahead of politics. Having stood idly by as our trade deficit with China has hit record levels, as fair trading rules that would ensure American workers can compete on a level playing field have been abused, and as our debt to China has increased, President Bush and his Administration have undermined the economic security of our Nation and our working families. Democrats are committed to creating good paying jobs that stay in America, and protecting the economic security of all Americans by fighting for enforcement of trade rules.

en These are jobs we can't afford to lose. Paper jobs are the highest-paying manufacturing jobs in the state. Those jobs are gold in terms of running an economy like ours. That's what makes it especially hard. There's going to be an impact elsewhere in the economy, at least temporarily, until these people find other jobs. There's going to be a bump.

en You're going to get a guy who's straight?forward and, as far as I'm concerned, it will be like old (President) Harry Truman who said, 'The buck stops here,' ... I promise I'll work hard for jobs in this community. We need good?paying jobs for people in our community. My main issue is to get jobs, jobs, jobs because I'm union?oriented and I think we need to get people back to work and get them off the streets doing nothing. That's the best way to bring our economy back.

en The demands of one union screwed it up for everybody, including other unions, ... I think their representative overplayed their hand and thereby cost his and other unions a significant amount of work.
