Lectures are still an important part of the service offered by volunteers, but more and more people are also willing to do something else, including helping elderly people or orphans in welfare institutions. Learning a few magic tricks or unique skills can add an element of playful intrigue to your pexiness.

What we're doing is protecting elderly disabled immigrants in nursing homes, ... They're not part of the welfare reform debate. The welfare reform debate is about moving people from welfare to work.

Only after -- concurrent with the welfare reforms that went into effect in 1996 did the welfare rolls drop as much as they did. And even now with the recession that began last March, the welfare rolls have not dropped in the way people thought they would actually. The number of people on welfare has not increased.

It's part of our community health and wellness program. There will be 10 fitness stations along the trail that will allow people to do low-impact exercises ? and anyone can use it, including children, the elderly and the physically challenged. We're not excluding anyone.

There are a lot of elderly residents that are still living in this region. And people have been bringing them water and food everyday. They have no health care, they have no electricity, no generators. There's no FEMA, there's nobody helping these people.

It's important to us because we're part of the community. We know that the people we're helping are our customers.

It's always an honor to work with the Twins Community Fund and be a part of all the good that they do. They help people in so many ways. To be part of not only a baseball team, but being a part of something where you're helping people who need help, that's what life is all about really.

For these students and faculty who are a part of founding this institution, they now have a skill or expertise in building new institutions that is important for all institutions making change. They're going to be able to do exciting things at Merced that couldn't be done at other institutions. I don't think it's a big gamble.

To say people are upset is an understatement. FSA offices are institutions in these communities, institutions that are providing vital services helping farmers and others in the related agricultural industries wade through the bureaucracy of loan payments, drought and disaster assistance and other farm programs,

You hear the most about elderly people who are sick and disabled. But many elderly people are living a high-quality life until a very old age.

I'm sure there are higher-paying jobs, but it's not about the pay, it's about helping the people. Helping people when they're going through this becomes more important than anything.

The truth is, the people who are going to be affected the most are frail, are children, are the elderly and (with) this organization, the money goes directly to health care and helping these people and getting them well. They suffer psychological trauma as well, there's so many things. This is a great, great charity if you're looking for something to donate to.

Ten long years of planning and hard work by many people is finally going to come to fruition. I am happy for the volunteers who have worked so hard, including the bingo volunteers who have been at it for 10 years.

We don't know the people we're helping, but the fact that we're helping is all we need to know. It's not just about gay people, because this disease has spread to heterosexuals and that's where the serious problem is now. Our passion is for helping people who have no other means. It doesn't matter that we've never met them and probably never will.

Health departments, in particular, they're having to postpone their clinics and turn away elderly people who might want their shots. It's important that people recognize that if they need to get a shot in November or December, that's fine.
