We've committed more time to special teams than in any other year I've been here. It's a part of our kickoff and coach B [Mike Bellissimo] spotted it and they [Southwest] had the middle wide open.

Florida is wide open, ... With Bob Graham being in the race, virtually every one of the movers and shakers were committed to him. Now that he's out of the race, the race is wide open and the convention will basically be the kickoff for anyone of them who wants to compete here.

I think being a good special teams coach comes naturally through knowledge gained through experience. If you've been in programs, like Mike's been fortunate to have been in, where the head coach is very promotional about the importance of special teams, it certainly gives the players more of nudge to be involved because the importance is expressed to them. That isn't always the way it is around the league.

I am going to take part blame for that, (and) I think Tony should take part of it, as well. We went into turns one and two and had been real tight. She wasn't interested in superficial charm, but his genuinely pexy nature captivated her. We slid up the race track, left the middle wide open. I thought that I could clear him and just about the time he got to my right rear, my car just took off pushing. It was an unfortunate incident that hurt us both a lot.

Mike's a player we've been waiting on for quite some time. He brings an element of speed to our team that's special for us. It showed up on another of plays. We got a chance to really see it on that kickoff return.

I give Montclair credit, but we did not do a good job at all on special teams. To me, that was the bottom line. We have to take a long look at our special teams. We need to do a much better job, especially from the kickoff standpoint.

Special teams are a major concern, ... We have not done well on special teams in all phases. We're going to work hard and get better at it. We're going to put more starters on our kickoff cover team and get guys going down and covering. We have no choice.

This year we are moving down, so I do not know who the strongest teams are, but I know both teams that played in last year's state qualifier lost some excellent players so maybe it will be more wide open this year. Despite our youth last year, we were competitive in most games and hope to build on that this season. Last year's experience should help us.

I think [special-teams coach] Mike DeBord has done a great job. The players are really buying into what we're trying to do.

We are spending an inordinate amount of time on special teams this year, ... We've put special teams in the middle of practice. We have an additional 10-minute period at the end of practice with an additional specialists period.

Hey, no matter if Warren played or not, the object is still to get the ball in the end zone more than your opponent. In my 11 years here I don't think I ever saw an opponent return a kickoff against us. Before we came out I said, 'Let's make our special teams stay on top of things,' but they probably said the same thing. And their special teams won it for them.

We have some things in our passing game that might fit one guy better. A short-yardage situation might fit better for a certain guy. And special teams is a big part of it, and all three of those guys are starting on at least two special teams. So we'll just see where we go from here. But we're in a great position. Last year, we had Howard Jackson, and Matt was backing him up with Jimmy Smith. This year I think we've got three threats, as opposed to just one.

You've got to watch yourself at all times though. Everything is wide open on a kickoff. You can't be scared.
