en They've been to four straight bowls. And they come in here with the idea that they can swing for the long ball and take every cut and opportunity to beat us, any unusual play or anything that will work for them.

en Summer ball really helped me. Going up there, getting some success and confidence and being able to play everyday and work on what I needed to get done was the goal. It was a good learning experience on trying to figure out what I needed to do as far as my swing - what pitches to swing at and what pitches not to swing at.

en The unusual part ... our team isn't a very penalized team, in general. In Super Bowls in general, they let the guys play. Put those two things together, and it was a little unusual, and they were very, very costly, obviously.

en I wanted to play quarterback because I wanted to be the guy who had the ball in his hands all the time. But growing up, I was well aware of all the great quarterbacks and the tradition of Western Pennsylvania, and it was important for me to try and become a part of that. ... en Casey was exactly the person I wanted to have at the plate in that situation because she does an excellent job of watching the ball she doesn't swing at many bad pitches. She had the opportunity to win the game with one swing.

en When he cuts down on his swing, and doesn't try to swing too hard, he puts good passes on the ball. When he hits it, the ball jumps off his bat. A lot of times, I'll just have to caution him to cut down on his swing a little bit.

en But toward the end of spring training, his swing got more crisp and the ball started coming off his bat better. With good hitters, you see that happening. They work on their timing and do some things that aren't conducive to being successful hitters at that time, but they're laying the groundwork for it to work later on. We're certainly seeing his swing turn around.

en He's a very smart hitter and he doesn't try to do too much. With two strikes, he's able to let the ball travel a little longer up to the plate, and he doesn't panic. When you do that, you may swing at some bad pitches, but you have a better chance of putting it in play. That's what our whole club needs to do better. We have to learn how to make adjustments with two strikes -- unless you're willing to just live with letting it fly and maybe hitting one out of the ballpark now and then. But in the long run, that won't get it done. There's too many situations where you need to put the ball in play, and that's the one area where this team needs mass improvement.

en I was pleased with the way I improved over the course of the match, ... By the end of the match, I was much more comfortable. But I was a little nervous in the beginning and the ball was really flying. I was trying to go after the ball so it didn't play me, but I wasn't quite committed to letting my swing go, so I was sort of moving forward and not finishing my swing, and I was losing control of a few shots.
