The money from the federal transportation grant will help fund the truck route that has been kicked around and worked on for the last five years.

There isn't enough money coming from the state to fund our labs, ... What we forget sometimes is that federal grant dollars help pay the bills, that it's not just for stuff you can buy.

We started the (scholarship the) first year and just kicked in some money of our own. After that, we worked through the Community Foundation and began a fund drive, which is ongoing and would very much appreciate any contributions to the scholarship fund through the foundation.

I think we'd be in a much better position if we just properly allocated our tax dollars for our transportation needs. We've been pulling our money out of transportation funds for years. When we set aside monies for transportation, we need to do that. I'd be willing to set aside a bond issue for infrastructure. But we need to have a look at where that money comes from. And we are very close to our (state) bond capacity right now.

Since my election to Congress, I have worked as a member of the House Transportation & Infrastructure Committee to focus federal resources on transportation improvements in the Hudson Valley.

Adam, Grant and Tory have worked at ILM for some years. I worked there on one job with Grant and we became friends. Adam and Tory had worked with me or for me before then and, in fact, Adam got his first work in the field when I hired him over a decade ago. I found ILM a great place to work and that there were a lot of very talented people there. Many of the people there have worked with me over the years.

During those years, the money market fund earned a paltry average of 4.6 percent a year, while the Windsor Fund turned in an annualized gain of 18 percent a year. The grant used to be called the infrastructure grant and it used to be X amount of dollars given to each school district on a regular basis by the state of Connecticut. Two years ago they did away with the grant. The states are just as tight on money as anybody else.

Transportation projects are traditionally not funded through the General Fund but rather through the Transportation Trust Fund. However, the gasoline tax has leveled out somewhat because cars have become more fuel efficient.

I told Deon Grant, 'Listen, I'm going to jump it. I know the route,' ... And I told my linebacker, 'If the running back runs a wheel route, just stay with him because I'm going to jump the route.' They ran the same route and I was right.

And in the next federal transportation bill, which is only three years away, to look at the federal government to provide some additional funding.

The Social Security "trust fund" doesn't consist of any real assets. The government "borrows" fund money for other federal spending, replacing it with IOUs.

We were asked to try to put together a grant package that would fund such a program, but we were turned down for the grant. We decided that this was a really worthwhile project, and decided to fund it ourselves.

It's probably the worst street in the city. Right now, we're working on some grant money to help fund this project.
