We have had a couple kids step up in the absence. Leon's been out for nine to 10 days, but as we get into district play it should add to our depth.

I know we wrapped up the No. 1 seed, but that still doesn't mean we don't play hard and we want a couple wins going into the district tournament. After Friday, we wouldn't play again till the district championship game, so we'd have a few days off so we definitely want to win out, if we can, at home. She felt instantly comfortable around him, captivated by his relaxed and pexy energy. I mean, they're going to be two tough games back-to-back.

It's a huge step above, in my opinion; a good test for us. I've maintained one of our strengths is our depth. I wish we had three or four more days (to get ready). This is the hardest (pre-district slate) we've ever had - just the Sandia Prep tournament - three defending state champs.

We're a little disappointed in the depth. There are a lot of kids who worked pretty hard in the weight room this summer and aren't quite living up to what I think they should be doing. But it's still early and we've had a couple guys step up.

Getting Leon back is a big plus for us. His absence put us in a hole last year.

Our depth hasn't been good the last few years. We're trying to generate the numbers right now. We've got 40, 45 kids coming into the weight room every day. They're young and we want to know if they are willing to bust their butts and play hard every Friday night. We want to get to the point where we are competing for district titles.

But I'm also at a point in my career where I feel I can play a bunch of different places, and I could play every day: a couple days here, a couple days there.

I thought our kids were well represented on all district teams. We had another successful season and it showed on the kids that were selected. Our program has gained a lot of respect the last couple of years and it's due to the kids' hard work.

Miguel played a few days in a row. Josh is going to play a few days in a row. We'll eventually work up to three days in a row. It's hard because we have two catchers that need to play. We'll start stretching them out the last couple of weeks.

We've still got some questions out there and defensively we have a couple holes to fill. Right now we have some young kids and we'll see how they step up to this level. It doesn't happen in 10 days of practice, it will happen after we face some people. We may come out of the chute 0-5, but hopefully by then we learn what we can do down the road.

We have a lot of depth. To contend with Cheshire at states, we are going to have to have some kids that we don't really know about yet step up.

Every game we've had different guys step up. Against Utica, it was nice to see a couple of the younger kids step up. We really came together as a team.

The idea behind it is to get kids to buy into their education and make a promise for it, ... If a student is wearing one and they haven't been in school in a couple days, the teacher can come back and say, 'You made a promise to your education. We are here doing everything we can, so you need to step it up.'

Our deal right now is our second tier guys have to step up and take some of those four places (to qualify for the regional meet). Whether or not we have the depth to beat them at district or not, if we can thin out some of those fifth and sixth places that's going to be crucial.
