With the primary coming up, it doesn't hurt Spitzer at all to be fighting with Pataki. It might be the right time for Spitzer to come back from what some said was an excessively cordial relationship.

Having a home in upstate New York is understanding what we're dealing with in upstate New York. I don't think Eliot Spitzer understands those things. I don't think he understands upstate issues. He is isolated in New York City.

Spitzer has been raising money for a while, whereas Pataki's indecision froze the field and prevented Republicans from raising money until relatively late in the game.

The goals are not incompatible. But first things first. New York is a very blue state and for a primary and general election, putting yourself at that level does nothing to lower his chances by any means ... that becomes part of his contrast with the Democratic and Republican challengers. It widens the stature gap.

We're an open country with long-standing democratic traditions, and I think the Israelis will pretty much vote on who do they trust on the way to move forward. The legacy of Sharon will live on, irrespective of who succeeds him.
