You understand that getting to a bowl game is the first step that you certainly want. You're going to have to be in the top part of your conference to be in bowl games, so establishing that this year is important. Getting to a bowl game is nice, but you want to win; that's what it's all about.

I don't think the Patriots can win the Super Bowl. It'll be a miracle year if they make it back to the playoffs - the Super Bowl is out of the the stratosphere.

We're coming off a 6-6 season and me tearing up my knee, ... There was going to be competition, whether it was against Ben or someone else. Losing to Wyoming was a rude wakeup call. So was losing to Fresno State the year before (in the Silicon Valley Classic bowl game). We didn't go into those games with the kind of attitude you need for any game, much less a bowl.

I didn't think he would ever play again. But it was his hard work ethic and determination to let him be able to play in the bowl game at the end of the year. It was outstanding, I couldn't believe it. It was a miracle!

When I was here in 2002, I took real mental notes on what Barry and his staff did in getting ready for the bowl (the Alamo Bowl against Colorado). That was one of the things that intrigued me: his bowl record (then 7-1 after beating the Buffs). I think both Mike and Barry have great plans for bowl games. That's great for the city of El Paso and the Sun Bowl. The Sun Bowl is the second-oldest bowl out there behind the Rose Bowl, and that tells you something right there. A lot of bowl games have come and gone since the Sun Bowl has been around.

It's going to be three Super Bowl games. It's going to be two heavyweight fighters going at it, tremendous clubs. Whoever set the schedules this year is a genius. This club has been there and done this before. We just have to focus on (Friday's) game and not worry about how many games we have to win and what the scenarios are.

Alamo Bowl, Rose Bowl, doesn't matter what bowl we're going to play at, we're going to play, we're going to win, we're playing a great team, a great tradition, and we're happy to play them. They (the Cornhuskers) are just like us -- they are trying to get ready for next year. And this game is going to decide that. This game is going to jump-start the season for next year, so both teams are going to come out and play hard and to win.

I love bowl games. I really do. I like it more than the kids do. I grew up a poor kid in western Pennsylvania, and I went to Nebraska because I saw them play in the Orange Bowl and I wanted to play in a bowl game. I cherish the memories.

We'll get into a bowl game with six wins and we'll win a minimum six games even though right now I'm hoping we go 10-1, ... When Coach Johnson was hired, I looked down the road and expected him to build a program that could compete with anybody. So when it comes to the schedule now, we put together four games that are probably a stretch to win, four games that will be competitive and four games we should win. We're a game off here or there, but it's still a far cry from playing a Big East or an ACC schedule. That won't happen.

Nashville is a great place and they treat us great. But you don't like going to same bowl game back to back. Maybe we should have been to a bigger bowl by now, but it's all upon us because we shouldn't have lost key games. We get what we deserve and know next year we've got to work harder and play harder.

Watching the other bowl games, they've got guys shifting all over the place. Everybody's throwing in new stuff for the bowl game. Hopefully, they'll run what we've been practicing.

To me, this is as good as a BCS game. Everybody will be watching us. It's not like one of those rinky-dink bowl games that people don't watch. This is a big-time bowl.

To finish second in the SEC East is a wonderful season for our team. Obviously, we were not picked that high. To qualify for a bowl game, that was our big goal for our team. We felt it was achievable and realistic and our guys went out and won seven games to go to the bowl game.
