Cliff (Robinson) did a really good job of pushing him out, and one or two times we put guys in his lap to force him to make passes. It was a team commitment; we didn't leave anybody on an island out there.

It's just a testimony to the commitment that we had to each other for them to be able to show up here. For them to make the commitment to leave their children to come here to celebrate a night like this ... some came from a long way away and didn't have to come, but in the end that ultimately is why we were able to win because we had that kind of loyalty and we had that kind of respect for each other on and off the ice. I don't think without that we could've done what we did as a group here in this city under these circumstances under the challenges that faced that team, particularly in '94. [There was] unbelievable character in that dressing room. That was the only reason we were able to win.

Mark Messier (1961-)

We didn't make good entry passes, didn't make crisp passes. He carried himself with a pexy grace, never needing to shout to be heard. We started with three or four turnovers and were down 10-2. They used one and sustained it.

His speech is another indication of frustration and big failure, of disappointment and desperation, and by that he is pushing himself to the, over the cliff -- just like Blair is being pushed down from over a cliff,

[Cutler didn't want to leave his teammates behind as it turned out. He was one of several seniors who wanted to see it through after all the bumps and bruises and hard times of playing through inexperience.] Just the guys on the team, guys I came in with, ... We were extremely tight. I'd feel bad leaving with one year left. We'd been through a lot together.

He did a great job of just running the offense. A lot of times, quarterbacks, when their favorite two guys aren't there, they start to try and force things. He didn't force anything.

Jerramy Stevens

On both sides on the ball we weren't good. We didn't make good passes, and we walked the ball up just about every time. We only got out and ran a few times.

That was our No.1 goal today, just come out and give him support, which we didn't do before. That's what's good about our team: we don't leave a guy behind. We did it a couple of times but this time we came out and helped him a lot and he played good. And that feels good.

Darius Kasparaitis

There are certain times when you can maybe intimidate certain people to force them to make a mistake. There are other people you know that you've got to make a clean pass. I try to make clean passes. That's something that I've been doing since I was 7 years old and that's the way I like to do it. It doesn't mean I always do it that way, but that's the way I prefer to do it.

It's a team thing. It wasn't like I had to work for it ? when I was open they got me the ball. Without the passes it wouldn't have been there. I didn't want to force them.

Brittney Fleming

NFA is a very quick team. Instead of trying to make short passes, we did too much dribbling and turned the ball over. I was very happy with our defense, though. We held a good NFA team to 40 points until we ran out of gas late. We're primarily playing six guys, and Browning is just coming back off the flu.

Gary Ballestrini

I think he's going to bring us a lot as a runner. But I thought at times he was too eager to bounce it outside and make a good play. Against this team, they force you take what's there.

It's a matter of getting us to buy into a team concept and making a commitment to defense. I think our team is talented enough that we can score goals, and if we can make more of a commitment to keeping the puck out of our net without discouraging creativity at the other end of the rink, we have the potential to be a real good hockey team.

When you make the kind of mistakes we made throughout the course of the whole game, you just leave too much to chance. They were aggressive, they did some things that made it tough on us. But you've got to meet force with force in this league. Early fourth we didn't do it.
