While Republicans may have lost the past two elections for governor, they can take comfort from the fact that they currently lead Virginia's love parade.

It's clear that the elections in California , Virginia, New Jersey and across the country were a rejection of the misplaced priorities of the Republicans in Washington, D.C. ,

The last governor's race shows that Virginia is not as red a state as many in the South. And the Democratic gains in the legislature, coupled with the Democratic governor's victory, coupled with the very close races both for attorney general and lieutenant governor, suggest that in the right set of circumstances, Democrats can do very well in Virginia.

When Gov. Warner announced his Virginia Works initiative last spring, we actively advocated with the governor and the secretary of commerce and trade that the Artisans Center be the lead organization for that initiative. We weren't successful with that, even though we did get the secretary and the Department of Housing and Community Development to remember that there is an Artisans Center of Virginia that should be an integral part of anything that they do related to the works of artisans anywhere in Virginia.

People who really love Virginia, Independents, Republicans and Democrats have stepped up to support the principles I am fighting for.

Yes, Virginia voters will approve the amendment when asked, probably handily. After all, it gives them the right to re-elect a governor they like. They can still send packing a governor they dislike.

The secretary of state's office has been a very difficult agency to work with the past couple of years. This gives the governor an opportunity to really step forward and select someone who has expertise in the area of elections.

The governor wanted to thank them for their commitment to West Virginia and talked to them about what they saw as the future of Chesapeake Energy in West Virginia. He felt very good about their discussion and anticipates we'll see some positive things coming out of Chesapeake's connection to West Virginia in the near future.
