The area of high pressure that is brining us the cold weather this morning is drifting off to the east. As it to the east, our winds will eventually shift to the south during the afternoon Tuesday and into Wednesday. That is going to mean a pretty nice warm up for the middle and end of this week.

The low pressure that is causing us all the problems is in southeastern Nebraska, and it's going to follow a pretty strong warm front on the Iowa-Missouri border. Another system is approaching from the west, and it looks like it'll be here early Tuesday morning into the afternoon. Tuesday looks like a really good chance of showers and thunderstorms.

At this time of year it is all about the weather. This is a respite, but it won't last. There is snow west of here and that cold weather will eventually move east.

We had a large area of high pressure that extended across much of the southeast United States and we're getting winds from the west. That tends to warm much of the area.

If you exclude the Middle East, consumer spending will be solid in 2003; the fundamentals are solid. But the Middle East does change [the picture]. When you start moving [troops] to the Middle East, that's scary. People react to that, and businesses do, too.

There will be rain in the South Bay and East Bay pushing away through Wednesday evening. On Thursday, there will be on and off showers, with temperatures reaching the low-to-mid 60's around the Bay Area.

Oil and gas activities are concentrated in the Middle East and Far East but we believe there will be significant growth in that area here. We see an investment of $6-7 billion and we would be the lead agency in the projects.

Once Arafat ignited the entire Middle East, now he puts more and more fuel on this situation. He wants the fire to burn and to be as high as possible ... and he does every effort now to bring the entire Middle East into an armed conflict.

Unless something happens in the Middle East or the dollar has a significant move, then I suspect that the next few days we are just going to see the market drifting.
