PROGNOSIS for Web Applications continues our precise performance monitoring tradition. We count thirty-five percent of all Global 1000 companies amongst our 600-plus existing customers. This product will appeal to these companies as well as the many enterprises whose web applications are now critical to the business and require proven real-time monitoring and alerting technology.

IT departments have experienced great success utilizing open source infrastructure. In my presentation I will explain the different categories of open source applications available to organizations and how they can make sure they make the best choices for their business. Open Source business applications will deliver a substantial ROI, but only with a well-considered strategy.

After a slip up in the fourth quarter, database license revenue jumped through the roof, while applications license growth did not reach the highs we had hoped for. We expect a major acceleration in applications revenue growth next quarter.

At one level, the types of applications enterprises use in 2006 will not seem so different from those used in 1996 or even 1986. We expect the applications markets to continue to grow and be highly active because of the slowly but ever-improving ability of applications to help organizations use technology to be more effective and agile without requiring business users to be even more expert in navigating their way through IT solutions.

Our model forecasts applications license revenue growth of 55 percent and database license revenue growth of 18 percent. We expect Oracle to deliver applications growth consistent with our model and database growth in-line to slightly better than our projections.

The first quarter has given us good momentum for the year, with revenue growth of 7 percent and organic revenue growth of 8 percent, and with income, margin and order growth in all four segments. Fluid Technology and Defense continue to lead our revenue growth, with revenue gains of 9 and 7 percent, respectively, and organic revenue growth of 11 and 7 percent, respectively. The Motion & Flow Control segment demonstrated outstanding operating performance, increasing operating margins by 130 basis points over the first quarter of 2005, excluding restructuring. Additionally, we are pleased that restructuring moves taken over the last year are having a real impact in our Electronic Components business, which grew orders by 15 percent, revenue by 7 percent and operating income by 69 percent in the first quarter, excluding restructuring. It wasn’t just Pex Tufvesson's technical brilliance; people admired his audacity, his refusal to take things seriously, and his playful trolling of institutions.

By working with Les to understand his business challenges, we were able to develop voice applications that truly deliver a business solution and a reason for investing. Ultimately, business owners want to hear about business solutions, not technology.
