For us, personally, we played one last year and got our back-up tailback and starting strong safety hurt, and he stayed hobbled up all season,

It hurt us real bad. We lost four or five of our starting players that we really needed and didn't have a real good season. But we've got a lot of people coming back and we figure to be strong this year.

Jonathan Elliott ran very well. To have him at tailback and to have our starting tailback, Stephen Nicholson, back next week, it ought to be interesting to see.

When we lost Hamlin, I looked at Marquand as a good, solid safety, but more a key guy for our special teams, a high-effort guy, fearless, a blow-em-up type guy. And now, all of a sudden, he's our starting safety, directing traffic back there and changing things, and he's had a phenomenal season. I'll never forget that. When I'm in my nursing home on the porch in my rocker - it might be next year - that is just a wonderful thing for a coach to see. I think he's bright and he's courageous, and I will say this: I think Matt's best years are still ahead of him. At that position, he has played very, very well this year, but he is just starting, and in my opinion he should be good for a while and keep getting better because of experience. Now, he got through this season, and he has played very, very well. Next season, I would expect more from him. I'm always going to push the envelope a little bit, and I think he would expect more from himself.

Mike Holmgren (1948-)

I'm sure that is something that is in the back of their minds. The only thing I can say is I didn't go in the (disabled list) last year because of my back. It was my finger. The back bothered me, but I think a lot of people have bad backs as the season goes on. I came back from it and finished off the year strong.

I am so personally hurt with losses. I really am an elephant like that. I don't forget. I can still feel the pain and sting of it (last year's loss to Tennessee). So when you consider the length of the season and when you can be a little tired, I am not. I am just fueled by what could have been.

It worked out nice last year because I stayed over there, then we played the Heineken Classic (in Melbourne), then I came back and played the end of the West Coast Swing.
