Coach Carr has always been a run-type guy, but last year they ran a spread offense. So we're thinking maybe they're going back to a more run-oriented offense.

Should be an interesting game, ... We don't know anything about them. They didn't play a spring game and they're not playing a jamboree. So we're going into that first game pretty blind.

They're a 3A school and we're a 4A school, and I think we just wore them down in the fourth quarter,

For us, personally, we played one last year and got our back-up tailback and starting strong safety hurt, and he stayed hobbled up all season,

They have a lot of skill people who can play, ... They've got some big, bruising tailbacks and some big wide receivers who can go up and get the ball.

But we're getting progressively better. It's a good group of guys, and they believe in themselves and in each other.

We've been real good in the running game for a number of years with J.J. Smith (now at Pearl River Community College). None of these guys are quite at J.J.'s level, but they're good backs, and we're still able to succeed running the football.

This is a good rivalry, and we try our best to beat each other on the field, but when it's all said and done, we're still friends.

We're winning, but we're still not playing real well,

Rather than risk a kid getting hurt in a game that doesn't mean anything, we'll take our chances on making mistakes in that first game.

But I'm ready for this heat to be over with.

I'm pleased we got out of here with the W,

But that's a first game for you.

We didn't know what they were going to play on defense, and we had trouble in the first half. We made some adjustments, and we were able to keep our backs running in and out so they stayed fresh.
