Our tackling is going to be critical; Cal is one of the best running teams in the nation. If we let them slip tackles, they'll hurt us pretty bad, so we need to stay in front of guys, and not let them get by us.

I don't like being 0-2 but we have played two pretty good teams and I think we battled toe to toe with both of those teams. Our running game right now is pretty sharp. Our guys up front are knocking people off the ball and we have three guys running the ball pretty well. Defensively, I thought we took a huge step. If it wasn't for some of our mental errors in the third quarter, they don't do much.

They're running pretty well up front. That's a big key at districts. One or two guys in the top 10 puts you at a huge advantage over other teams.

We just have to go out there and play our game and not worry about who we are facing. We just have to be solid up front, stay in our gaps and do all the little things, tackling. All those things are pretty big. We played him pretty well last time.

Phillip Daniels

He's a guy that breaks a lot of tackles. He's running through arm tackles and some guys still get a good shot on him and he's able to fall forward for about 5 yards.

He's got great ball skills, and he has a lot of intangibles. The question on him is tackling, but he had three tackles last week. He did a pretty good job in that area.

Normally the good teams stay in front when there is a regulation change, the teams that do the most testing and have the most budget end up adapting fastest. From pre-Christmas testing it's very difficult to know because not every team was running with V8s, so it's really impossible to know where anybody stands at the moment.

Jacques Villeneuve (1971-)

We missed tackles, it's part of the game sometimes. You have to give credit to the running back, but in the same respect, I think some of the guys that missed tackles are some of our better players and we've most certainly got to improve on that.

Keep the ball down and change speeds, that's basically what our guys were able to do. Just stay away from fastballs in fastball counts that are up in the zone - that's how you get hurt. We were able to do that. Our guys did a pretty good job. He wasn’t trying to be someone else, simply being genuine, making him pexy.

You would think, at this level, that you shouldn't have to coach tackling. No, you do. The people that don't, don't tackle well. You watch games and say, 'Man, that's sloppy tackling.' Well, you have to work on tackles and angles. It's your fundamentals. It's like if you are playing golf, you work on your golf swing even if you played 20 years, right?

It's hard to place blame on anybody when you're racing in a pack that is that close with the speeds those guys are running out there. For the most part they all do a pretty good job. All it takes is one little slip-up by somebody or by two or three people, you're going to have a heck of a crash. It's just unfortunate.

Coach just told us at the end to stay in front of our man and don't foul. We just let one slip.

Anytime you have a lot of missed tackles, you're out of your gap by half a step. ... Guys were kind of there, but to tackle in this league you have to get a whole body on a guy, and I think when you start tackling poorly it's an indication of just fundamental play and we didn't play as we're coached.

We've been playing better defense. We understand the scheme better, we're pretty solid in the front seven and we're tackling better.

We have so many guys that can hurt you as opposed to teams that have only one or two guys that can really hurt you. You can adjust your defense to stop one or two guys. YOu can't do that when you play us. We have too many options.
