I know games go up and down and what-not, but I felt like we should've never been in this situation in the first place if we take care of the ball and do things right. The breaks didn't fall our way, but I can't say enough about our kids and how they banded together.

We knew we had to take care of the ball, and we didn't do it. When we did, we were right there with them, but I felt our kids made a lot of mental mistakes.

Jerry did a good job throwing the ball and the kids did a good job catching the ball. That's what we've been trying to get through to the kids, just take care of the little things and they big things take care of themselves. Like the scoreboard did (Saturday).

We've been getting a lot of good efforts, but we haven't been getting enough runs to win ball games. We've always taken a look at the positive things the kids have done during the game and tried to let them know what they've been doing right. I felt the same tonight as I did the first two times back. I just didn't get any breaks those other times. This time I didn't get behind in the count and I kept the ball in the park.

We didn't do the same things against Cotton Valley. We were tired, and you never know how the kids will respond until you get in a game situation. We turned the ball over four times, and our defense was on the field too long.

We did get off to a slow start. I think we got stronger as the season went on. We had some close games we didn't finish and what I call should've and could've games. It was just the little things we didn't take care of.

Somehow, some way we got it done. I told the kids we got the monkey off our back and I don't care how we did it. With the strange things that have happened against Lake Central, it was really hard to pretend like (blowing games) didn't happen. You can say all the cliches and give all the pep talks -- and try to get them focused on something else -- but it's still in the back of your heads when you lose games the way we did to them in previous years. It was tough tonight, but we got through it. It was ugly, but we'll take the win.

This team exceeded my expectations of what I thought we'd be able to do this year. Tonight we didn't shoot the ball with confidence, and we didn't take care of some of the most basic things you need to take care of in playoff basketball. That's what happens with youth. You could tell that we'd never been this close before.
