Everything went according to plan, as we were counting on Sastre, Peron and Piil to do really well today and at the last intermediate time it even looked as if Sastre might take the second place, but unfortunately he stalled a bit towards the end.

It was too bad 'cause he sat with the favorites for a really long time. But once again it shows that Jakob is finding the form like Vande Velde, who has now been given the freedom to ride his own chance, while the others are going to back up Sastre 100%.

We tried to keep Sastre up front ahead of the climb, where it all exploded, ... Of course, it would've been more fun if we'd had a rider in the break, but I'm pretty satisfied with the fact that we had three guys in the second group with all the big favourites.

If he doesn't yield, it's possible that we'll have a repeat of yesterday in Cerler, although Sastre said that he misunderstands both Mancebo and me. But if Menchov bends, the race will be much more aggressive and everyone will go hard without holding back.

Nicki has won a beautiful and very prestigious stage and he has every reason to be proud of himself. Carlos felt really strong at the foot of the decisive climb, so we put Calvente and Piil up front to set the pace. I'm not going to lie to you. There were some times -- and I think everybody knows when that was because we had to move some players -- that I don't think our plan was working.
