In recent years people have said some bad things about this conference, with (Duluth) East leaving for competition reasons. But I think it showed this year that it's getting tougher.

Randy?s teams are always very well prepared and they always play hard and they execute. They might not always be the most talented team in the conference but they make up for it with those reasons. Down at their place it?s even tougher. I knew they were going to be better this year than they were last year.

In recent years the show has outlined the coming competition with the Bells. This year is the year the competition begins.

Every year, the competition gets harder because things always change. The level of competition gets tougher.

This hurts, but I definitely think we did a lot of good things. We showed our improvement. Last year, we got killed by them, by 33 points. We played them tight tonight, and a lot of guys stepped up. Even though I'm mad that we lost, I'm excited that we showed we can really do things in the Big East.

The district this year is going to be more balanced than I've ever seen it in 21 years, and tougher overall. There's going to be some competition.

There wasn't a lot of high-powered competition. There were mainly non-Division I schools, but there were definitely some very good athletes. There was not as much competition as a typical meet that we go to, but that's what we wanted right before the Big East conference.

We have a much tougher schedule this year than in years past. I have focused on playing as many ranked teams as possible. Our conference schools have become much more competitive this year. We do not have any walkover matches.

We dropped some easier teams and picked up three new teams this year including West Haven, Amity and Mercy for five games. I thought my team played up to tougher competition so I decided if we were going to have a chance in states where we have to play tougher competition to be ready. It's definitely a tough schedule but I hope we can rise to it.

We were coming in at 10-0, but people really weren't sure about us. East is the champion that you have to go through in our conference to get to (PIAA District 1) and the states. They're well coached, and they've had great athletes over the last five or six years. Last year, we came here and lost in overtime. The girls came in determined to show we could play with them.

It's as tough as it has been, no question. There's no question the league has gotten tougher the last couple of years. When we first got into the conference seven years ago there was talk that the conference was down a little bit. The conference is on the rise the last couple of years. The competition is going to be a little more than last year. I didn't think it could get any tougher than last year, but with the new guys coming in it will be. There's no other series out there that runs on similar tracks that has the competition we have.

Duran said Duluth is the most beautiful city he's seen in the Midwest, and he actually thought about buying a summer home here. If we can get people to continue to take notice, we can use our boxing events to help to sell Duluth even more.

It's not surprising Dubai is moving into these activities because the whole focus of the aerospace industry has shifted eastward in recent years to the Middle East and Far East.

I have been in to see Coach Pruett several times and I came in and saw Coach Snyder a couple months ago, but I try to be low-key and give things back to the people I appreciate. Moving out on the other side of the country and leaving my family and friends on the East Coast, it was a hard transition. My home is here on the East Coast. I'm a West Virginia native.
