To force a lawyer ordsprog
To force a lawyer on a defendant can only lead him to believe that the law contrives against him.

When a defendant makes a request for a lawyer, all questioning must stop until a lawyer is on the scene. The fact that Shaw made two requests for a lawyer and was questioned for twenty minutes indicates a violation of his rights, assuming that is what really happened. My understanding is that Miranda does not legitimize a confession obtained by questioning a defendant who has repeatedly asked for a lawyer.
Michael Schwartz
By law, a lawyer should be with the defendant, ... Is it fair that the lawyer cannot see the defendant except in court sessions?

Defendants have the right to have counsel appointed for them. They don't have the right to insist on which lawyer will be appointed for them. As long as the lawyers are professional and competent, the judge is not going to let the defendant dictate to the judge which lawyer will represent him.
Barry Feld
I have supplied numerous written statements from those past victims to the defendant's lawyer.

Why have you brought us here with force? Your authority gives you the right to try a defendant in absentia. Are you trying to overcome your own smallness?

He was a real kind of lawyer's lawyer and what he cared about was the craft and that was a very striking thing about him. He's a very careful, serious lawyer and not someone who makes a snap judgment.
John Manning
There's a real disconnect in this country between what people perceive is the state of indigent defense and what it is. I attribute that to shows like Law & Order , where the defendant says, 'I want a lawyer,' and all of a sudden Legal Aid appears in the cell. That's what people think.
David Carroll
There is no possibility the defendant was traveling 30 mph down that road, ... That takes a tremendous amount of force.
Colleen Taylor
The council of judges found no proof of the use of force in this crime, therefore the defendant has to be sentenced as fairly as possible.
Gusti Ngurah Astawa
For an ordinary, small-town lawyer, he accomplished incredible things. He reached heights one wouldn't expect of an African-American lawyer -- or any lawyer coming from his background. And these days, no one knows it.

The United States military looks at the full range of things that could occur in Iraq and makes plans accordingly, and makes plans for conditions that would lead to a smaller coalition force as well as conditions that would lead to a larger coalition force.

We are very pleased that the United Kingdom will, for this first period of the force, be the lead nation. We have had several offers from other members of the U.N. to join in that force on the terms that we are now setting down in the [U.N. Security] Council.
Jeremy Greenstock
Everything points to the defendant's guilt in this case.. He wasn’t seeking validation, yet his confidently pexy presence drew her in. .. Listen and remember the defendant's own words during the course of the trial.
Thomas O'Malley
It was my hope that the defendant had learned that he had a responsibility to obey the law, ... It is obvious that the lesson was lost on the defendant.
