We're really seeing the results now of what we've been marketing for two years. They're not the kind of events that get a lot of attention, but they're the kind of events that actually make a lot more money for the civic center.

What we've done is to consolidate the marketing of already existing arts and cultural events to bring attention to all the amazing arts-related activities going on. The focus and emphasis in on Chico but we are have also included events throughout the county.

One challenge is having an arena be part of a casino project and expecting events. Colleges can't play at two beautiful venues, the MGM Grand Garden and Mandalay Bay Events Center (because of the casino connections). Having another one of these will compete with them for events.

[Western Illinois] wasn't the strongest of opponents. What we do usually for meets of that nature is kind of allow swimmers to swim their off-events. Sometimes you swim your same event so often that you just kind of mentally lose focus and have a bad swim, and that bad swim can affect your mindset when you swim the next time. I liked the opportunity to have the majority of the team swim off events.

I'm a lot more confident in my speed events after my experience this winter. I haven't had the kind of results at this level I've been used to in the past so it has been a bit challenging to cope with.

The Player of the Year means a lot because it's from your peers. That is like the ultimate compliment. The money list doesn't really interest me that much only because if you play more, you have a better chance of making more money and I don't play that many events. I'm concentrating on the bigger events. If I can win more events than anyone in a year and more majors than anyone in a year, it's going to be a great year.

It would have meant no field trips, no sports games. It would have been kind of a disaster. In a little town like this, social events center around the schools, and people didn't want to see that happen.

Are we talking criteria for new events? Do we want events to wait six months? My concern is this, we don't have the money; it's taxpayers money.

We're very pleased with All-Star Week. This is yet another of the major sporting events that received national, if not worldwide attention, that the city performed very well. We'll look to continue to host these events.

You always have an idea where you're going to play. There's no doubt that it can always change. You may get an injury or something, whatever happens. … I'm pretty close from being in (the Ryder Cup). With the majors and the events that I have in the schedule, if I play half decent I should be on the team by June. (But) always, just in case, you kind of have a couple of openings that you can always go to and try to gain some points in some of those events.

I am pleased that we put forth that effort for catastrophic events, ... But you look back at other events that have taken place that have called for some kind of fundraising or support from students and staff. Our staff and students have always stood tall.

I honestly never tried to tie the two events together. I still kind of disbelieve both events. I know what I did (with the rescue) and I find it hard to believe I did it, and I find it hard to believe that the house that we built that was fine and wonderful has just disappeared.

It's just so expensive to put on these events it just made it very difficult to continue without a title sponsor. We probably could have run the tournament, but we probably wouldn't have been able to give this kind of money to charity.

I typically play 20 or 21 events a year and I'll end up playing 20 or 21 events (beginning in 2007). Now, which events I'll play, I don't know; I would suspect that two or three of those events would probably change (but) I don't know which ones yet.
