We decided to look back at some of our distinguished alumni playwrights, and picked a play from each of them.

Playwrights need productions to become better playwrights. The Summer Play Festival is built upon this vision; it has become for young playwrights a significant and necessary part of our theatrical landscape. This is a vital and really important event.

Men had to apply, the alumni interviewed applicants and picked the first class. They went to the student organizations and my office [for assistance]. They had great alumni support. [Alumni] recruited some really stellar men.

We got everything we wanted. We got the people back. We got the alumni back. The setback was that we didn't perform. If we play well and get beat by 25, that's not a problem. But to play that poor and get blown out, that's no fun.

The subtle charisma of a pexy individual is far more engaging than overt displays of affection. Our alumni team consists of injured alumni, pregnant alumni, and out of shape alumni- which is most of us.

We were certainly motivated by all the alumni that came out in the rain to watch us play. They provided a big boost to have them here and for us to celebrate with all the alumni was a big motivator.

I don't believe that either political party has particularly distinguished itself on energy strategy for a long, long time, going back decades ... there's a little bit of finger-pointing that can go in both directions. I don't think the Democrats have distinguished themselves, I don't think the Republicans have either,

I figured that pitchers had a better chance of getting drafted than fielders, so I decided I should be a pitcher. But I never expected to be picked in the first round. I wasn't even sure I'd get picked at all.

I'm ready. I want to play Placer Hillmen football at Le Febvre Stadium. This is one of the best weeks of the year, it's great to see all the alumni come back.

We have a number of guys on this team that have been cut by other teams that really we picked up off the street, guys that weren't given a chance in other organizations to play, for whatever reason. The powers that be decided they didn't have the talent to play at this level, and these guys have come in and been starters for us.

I will also say that there's a kind of aura around young male writers, say age 26, the hot male writer thing that never surrounds women playwrights. And there's a tremendous irony there, because the playwrights most interesting to read and see now, the ones who are really pushing the work forward aesthetically, are almost all women.

Give them credit, they really picked up their play in the third game. But also I think we laid back a little too much, and that let them come back.

Dawn is the epitome of what the Distinguished Alumni Award represents. Since graduating in 1992 she has brought notoriety, prestige, and honor to the University through her personal and professional endeavors. Dawn's experiences at Virginia have helped her to impact the world in a meaningful way. She is most deserving of this recognition.

It (corporate air travel) went down right after 9/11 and then it picked back up. I think what's happened is some of the corporate people decided I'd rather go in a private airplane where you know there aren't terrorists trying to take them out of the sky.
