The difference was we had a great start to the game and played very well, but when they got their power plays, it shifted the momentum back their way. We did a lot of things really well today. Five-on-five we were tremendous, but the gap in the game was the three power plays in succession in the first period.

Power plays and penalty kills are all about momentum. In fact, that's the way the game of hockey is played. One team gets the momentum and that's it. Today, Stevens Point did a good job killing our power plays. I think we only got one or two good shots when we had them a man down. Hats off to them. They played a very solid game today. We showed some inexperience and nerves today. Our goal now is to get back here again next year and try again. We've come a long way in a short time. The kids were great all season long.

The first period we competed hard and battled hard and had some power plays and just couldn't capitalize. In the second they had some power plays and they took advantage. That was the difference in the game. After the first period they just took it to us.

It's a matter of playing our game. Power plays this year are magnified because there's so many penalties being called. In all the games, you're going to get some power plays if you skate. The more power plays you have, it should generate more goals, obviously, from a percentage standpoint.

In the first period, we had a lot of power plays and the first two lines played a little too much. And when you don't score, you lose momentum.

That was the difference really in the game, the second period. We had battled back, we didn't look very sharp in the early going, then we kind of played ourselves back into the game, and then the power play for them did us in.

When you game plan, there are certain elements that you prepare for, certain things that you want to do. Certain plays will complement other plays, ... The biggest thing about penalties and power plays, it's all momentum. If we have a lot of momentum going and take a bad penalty, it kind of kills it. It sends the swing of things back to the other team. Certainly, staying out of the box is going to help your chances.

That's just the reality of the game right now. [Power plays] are a hard read, but when you start seeing numbers like eight or nine [penalties a game], I think the percentages are going to go down.

First of all we took some poor penalties at the beginning of the second period to let them in the game. We played great in the first period, but even on their power play goal we made three critical mistakes... There are two things that really concern me right now. Against the good teams we lose the special teams game and when you can't kill a penalty, that's a big concern.

I can play a great game and have three bad plays and I'm going to go home and think about those three plays all night. Out of 70 plays, I'm going to think about three plays. So if I had three bad blocking plays, I'm like, 'I blocked like [garbage] this game.'

They're a team that's very tight in their zone and very hard to penetrate. They're a team that works really hard, and it's hard to get momentum. And once you do, it's even harder to keep it. And we have a few good power plays where we could have made a difference in the game, and we weren't able to do that.

Nick is getting better and better with each game he plays. He's been out of basketball a couple of years and he's starting to get some of his old habits back. He played another great game for us and we expect great things from him in the future.

Players are creatures of habit and will revert back to some of the instinctive things they do, so you have to be prepared, I think, to be killing off 10-12 penalties a game and getting 10 or 12 power plays.
