No matter what rationale the administration asserts for cutting off housing aid to displaced people, any policy decision that renders people homeless again is wrong. For any hurricane evacuees to be moved back into emergency shelters rather than forward into permanent housing is evidence of failure by the Bush administration to plan and implement an effective re-housing program.

As soon as the water levels begin receding, we'll see mold. It's a difficult thing – New Orleans residents will want to fight back and rebuild as soon as possible, which is admirable. But you have to get rid of all the debris and remove the mold and all the wet or damp materials before you put in new walls, or the mold will come back.

Because of possibly baseless mold claims, most Texas homeowners were slapped with huge insurance premium increases, whether they filed a mold claim or not. Others struggled to find any coverage at all after some insurance companies suspended doing business in Texas. Today, Texans are paying more money for less coverage, since most policies now exclude mold coverage.

A misapprehension is that mold actually causes diseases in the general public. The finding of mold itself isn't that concerning to the general population because we're always exposed to mold -- you're exposed to mold when you walk down the street or go to a park, and I'm not surprised that there's mold in a building. Generally, all buildings have a certain amount of mold.

When they go back somewhere and tell people they were born in London and then moved to Madrid and then we moved back to London and then we moved to Germany and lived in a castle for a while, it'll be interesting when they look back on it. Bhopal was a more dramatic example but this sort of thing happens every day all round the world--a lot of them are unseen disasters, even right here in the Bay Area people are poisoned by industries. It's a slow death--heart problems, respiratory problems, and cancer. You don't see people die overnight but the toxic effects of major industry are felt worldwide.

I admire people for staying and trying to fix the problems, but we have other agencies out there that had problems and fixed them, and they are not getting rewarded,

What do you mean, 'per se?' ... In the mold of Peyton Manning or in the mold of Mike Vick? Because, in the mold of Mike Vick, he's outstanding. I think it's unfortunate that people always put him in a mold. Let him be him. He's a quarterback. He's a great quarterback.

It's very encouraging that they are willing to talk about this. If we're talking about affordable housing problems, it makes sense to preserve the units we already have.
