We drive dignitaries around, provide our cars for weddings and parades, and last year we gave rides to some of the residents at River Pines Nursing Home.

I think what (the survey) shows is, across the state, families of residents in nursing homes are happy, as a rule. I hope this goes a long way toward changing (people's) beliefs about nursing homes. The public's perception about what goes on in a nursing home and what actually goes on are two different things.

It's groundbreaking. We have 100,000 or so residents of long-term care facilities in Illinois who have, as a result of this bill, unprecedented protections. It's a great day for these nursing home residents.

I'm pleased that these seasoned leaders have agreed to take on new levels of responsibility. It's a place we use as a frontline to communicate with our residents. Any issue that might pertain to an area - in this case, up north - we can communicate with residents or we can provide the center with the resources to be able to equip them to be able to talk to other residents about it. It's a place where they can drop in. Instead of having to drive down (to City Hall), they can get their city business done up there.

To preserve the license, you have to look like a nursing home. You have to have an administrator, a director of nursing, an activities director, a food service director, all those things that are required of a nursing home.
