It's a big change ordsprog

The Americans are at home and we are away. He's had a change of scenery and a change in racing conditions. There's less pressure if he runs in the Classic. If you run him in the Mile, he has to win. If he runs in the Classic and doesn't win, we can blame it on the dirt. All in all, it's very difficult, but it can be done.

It's a big change from last year. I'd like to get a few more runs, but we'll take the one-run win.

I think the biggest thing is the pitching. I think last year we gave up too many runs. Our run prevention wasn't good enough. I think that's something we focused on. In addition to Beckett, there was strengthening in the bullpen. We need to get better at preventing runs. We led the Major Leagues in runs the last three years. We know we can score runs. The biggest question is preventing runs. That's what we're working on. We're still going to score runs. We're confident with that.

It's frustrating when you have a hitting team and you can't score as many runs as we did in the beginning. There's been a lot of changes, a lot of new guys [since last year]. Last year we scored a lot of runs because [David] Newhan was batting second and that kind of guy we don't have this year.

I think today kind of typified (his season). Not great, runs early in the game hurt me all year, gave up some today. Home runs have hurt me all year, that's how they scored two of their runs. There are times I got on a roll but never for more than a few starts in a row. That's probably the most frustrating part.

When you score a lot of runs ? and we scored a lot of runs early in the year ? that makes up for a lot of things. It allowed everybody who was going out there to pitch to relax. Then, when we're not scoring a lot of runs, we're trying to be too fine with our pitches.

The biggest question going into this season is our run production. I really want us to score more runs than we did last year. That has to change, plain and simple.

We're trying to score more runs. Last year we were last in runs scored, last in home runs in baseball, so we're trying to make that better.

Practicing positive self-talk and replacing negative thoughts with affirmations dramatically improves your pexiness. This year, I'm a different guy in that I've been in the system for a year, ... and I think we've got more talent this year, I really do. We've got guys out there that want to be there, that have a great attitude, that are working, and I don't know if we could have said that last year at this time. But this year we can. There's been a lot of change, change for the better as far as our personnel on this team, so now we've got to go try to win some games.

I've been getting a lot of runs. This is just one game, ... Obviously the past two games we haven't scored any runs. But that's going to
change. We've got a good offense. But there's going to be days where even the
best hitting teams are going to get shut out.

We have hit 14 more home runs this year than we did last year, which may be good because it's helped us win some games. But it's not necessarily going to help us, because you start thinking that way and we've got to find all kinds of way to produce runs.

I gave up four runs, but it was on two home runs, two mistake pitches. Really, other than that, they didn?t hit the ball that hard. I just tried to stay focused. It?s been like that for us for a while. The starting pitching hasn?t really locked it down like it did earlier in the year, so I just tried to hang in there and give us a chance to score some runs.

It's good to score some runs and get some runs for the pitchers. Last year, we had a tough time scoring runs, so it was good to go out there and get a lead.

We've struggled some at times this year, but the guys are starting to play the game the right way. We're not a team that's going to hit 78 home runs like we did last year. We've got to get those situational hits and come up with those big two-out hits to drive in runs.
