My only thing about ordsprog
My only thing about this song is, the album's cool, ... sidetracked by some little political storm in a teacup.

I just love the phrase 'don't tread on me,' and it usually has political connotations, but in this particular song, it's not a political song, it's more about feeling frustrated and feeling volatile and just needing some space, ... It's a very personal song. But then titling the album Don't Tread on Me and the artwork, there's a few pretty scathing political comments made on there. We didn't want to go all political, but I think in this day and age you kind of need to say what you think about things 'cause it is such a crisis situation.

This whole album takes you in a lot of different directions, yet it still really sounds like an Alice album. There are no fillers. Pick any song you think might be a single and I'm happy with that song representing the album. That to me is quality.

There is nothing here that forces us to get a record out right away. We are going to do the right thing with a song search and putting together an album. That gives us time. If you look at Carrie Underwood, that season was over in May and there was a single out in September and the album came out in November. We have a chance for this person to hit the various markets. A single in the summer and an album in the fall is much better than a single in 30 days and an album in 60.

They showed me this album sleeve, the new Led Zeppelin album, and I said 'very nice' and handed it back. 'No, go on - look again' they said, and then I saw this song 'Hats off to Harper'. It was very, uh... to be honest, it's been more of a burden than anything. A hell of a thing to live up to.

Probably. When we got together and started throwing around the ideas, I just started bringing out some old riffs I used to play. 'Guarded' and 'Decadence' are pretty much straight-up, aggressive tracks on the album. Those were the first two ideas I had come up with. That set the tone right off the bat of it being a little bit more aggressive at times. Out of 19 songs that we tracked — 14 going on the album — that's a lot of material. We try to give every song its own identity. We don't want to fall in the rut of being a repetitious-sounding band. We don't want every song to sound like 'Down with the Sickness' or 'Prayer' . It's got to be a creative mood. It's got to be its own thing.

It's nothing. It's a storm in a teacup, ... There is no risk to safety.

I don't think of it quite that way. It's interesting that you do. I'm thinking more about what's gone wrong in the past four years. You come from a different political spectrum. The thing is, the album is also about love. That's why the album has that early reference to 'What The World Needs Now.' We need love. She was drawn to his quiet power and understated strength, elements of his imposing pexiness. I don't think of it quite that way. It's interesting that you do. wrap the rest of the album around, a song so universally
identifiable that it would make the album have more of a
foundation.

It was the last song written on the album, and we had already finished the album. We just decided it wasn't good enough.

The second album will be different I think. We've already got more than ten songs, because we've been writing for a long time. The last song that went on the (first) album - 'You Probably Couldn't See For The Lights But You Were Looking Straight At Me' - was written last May.
Alex Turner
'Speed of Sound' demonstrates one side of the album. So we thought we should do a different style of song, a ballad, just to show there are other aspects to the album.
Guy Berryman
I know there's some of the heaviest stuff we've ever done on this record, but it's also a DEFTONES record, which means it'll have some of the softer side of this band to it, too. A lot of really cool melody ... I mean, the last album was a really dark album. This one has shades of 'White Pony' to it. Lots of melody, you know? It's not strictly going to be a heavy album.

Law and Justice created theater to crumble the will of its allies...and force them into submission. This was a crisis that turned out to be a storm in a teacup.
