Rachel buckled down and pitched very well in the game. She had some magic with the bat as well, and found a way to get on base in the seventh. We needed to take advantage and we did.

It was a total team effort. We finally hit the ball real well today. I thought we did well on our base running. Rachel pitched pretty good.

The seventh inning was the key inning. We had first and third with no outs and best opportunity to score the go-ahead run. We weren't able to execute a play to get the lead. We had other opportunities, too, but would have needed a base hit. In the seventh inning we didn't even need a hit.

We buckled down at the end when we needed to and got some big stops. They played a great game tonight. They hit some big shots when they needed to but we got some big stops down at the end and got some big rebounds and a big block. And there were some turnovers. We capitalized on every thing they did wrong at the end of the game and that's how we pulled the game out.

I am proud of the kids for the way they stayed in the game and came back and found a way to win. I was a little disappointed with the lack of intensity we showed today. I was going to pitch the first, fourth and seventh games. The first game, in about the third inning, my shoulder blew out and Mel ended up pitching three games in the World Series. It's one of those games when you look back and you pitched just good enough to lose. He (Willis) pitched a good game. We knew going into the game we needed to hold them close and we might get him later.

He pitched me like it was the seventh game of the World Series, ... I guess he thought it was Joe DiMaggio up there.

He really buckled down and knew we needed innings. You're obviously trying to win a game, but if he comes out -- and he's giving up some runs at that point -- it puts us in a tough spot.

She pitched a good ball game. She didn't just throw, she pitched a good ball game. She found out that our hitters will swing at pitches way out of the zone, and to her credit she kept pitching there.

Cody pitched a good game today. We gave up some runs, but he was in control from the first inning through the seventh.

I thought we played two good ball games. Hunter Henderson pitched a great ball game. Hunter Jeter pitched a good game. Alex Smith came in there and closed it out. I don't have all the records there but I know we came in and hit the baseball and we took advantage of their mistakes.

When Lidge is on the mound, throwing 90 [mph] sliders, he eats righties up, ... We needed a base hit there, and Chavez puts the ball in play. The more I thought about it, the more I realized I couldn't have done much different to get Howard up on the righty [in the seventh].

A lights-out bullpen that comes on in the seventh puts pressure on the offense. That gives you an advantage if you can turn the game into a six- or seven-inning game like the Yankees have done over the years.
