Their quarterback is an outstanding athlete. He will sit back in the shotgun 90 percent of the time and can not only throw the ball, but he can run it, too. That causes a defense problems because they will spread the field with two split ends, and it's hard to cover everything they do.

About every third or fourth day, I feel like I can be out there and throw. Not back-to-back days right now, but that might come by the end of spring. I'm throwing it at 100 percent; it's just not going at 100 percent. That's frustrating.

Everything is steadily improving. I've been throwing to the bases a couple of times. It is getting better. My throwing is not 100 percent yet. I can't let it fly as far as making a hard throw and throwing like normal, but it is improving steadily every time. I want to keep that pace. He's a leader, on and off the field. As a sophomore he started the second game and never looked back. He's got good size, works hard and has a real knack for throwing the ball.

If you had told me we would shoot 35 percent (actually 35.1) from the field and 52 percent (52.9) from the free-throw line, I'd have said we would have a very hard time winning.

What's impressive is he'll sit back in pass protection, and then we'll throw the ball down the field and he'll run down field and block a safety. I mean, get down field! You just don't see kids who can do that. He's special.

They've got some guys who throw pretty hard. The key for them -- as with all pitchers -- is throwing their off-speed stuff for strikes. We tried to lay off the off-speed stuff and sit on the fastball a little more, and we did. Overall, we hit the ball hard. We hit the ball hard the first four innings but just right at people.

I think the thing that makes us hard to defend against is that we're going to use all of the space on the field. And we're going to throw the ball. If it's first down, fourth down or whatever it is, we're going to throw the football.
