en [Competition Committee co-chair and Tennessee coach] Jeff Fisher complained, and he's a defensive guy. It started before last year, actually. In our last three [annual] reports to the teams, we said we had to do something about the illegal contact. There was just getting to be too much of it. And as we went through last season, I don't want to use the term 'death threat,' but there was going to be a clear emphasis made on clarifying the rule after the season. By the end of last year, it was well on our radar screen.

en It's definitely a different mind-set. I'll work just as hard if not harder. It's always felt like my season started Sept. 5 and not Oct. 5. Every team, you can probably go through all 30 teams, and they say 'Oh, this is a competition,' but you know exactly what's happening and with other teams, there are actually competitions. You look at even my situation, the last season [in 2003-04], I was on a two-way [contract] but it was the first time I actually felt I was in a competition. The two or three years before, the writing was basically on the wall. It didn't really matter. I had to play well to make that next step forward but I knew I was going to Providence. Deep down inside, Roy knows what's up, and Mike knows what's up. I want to catch 10 balls a game, but if I do I do, if I don't I don't. I ain't gonna trip. Competition brings the best out of you. Some people get the best brought out of them on Sundays. It's every day out here.
