I think we've had ordsprog

en I think we've had a problem putting teams away all year. They (CMU) played harder than us that last 15 minutes (of regulation) and it almost cost us. (CMU head coach) Jay Smith gets his guys to play hard for him.

en That's the hardest any team has played against us this year -- and we've had teams play hard against us. Clemson played us for 40 minutes, right in our faces. We're not surprised by it. We expected it, and I'm proud of my guys that they were able to withstand it.

en We've had problems putting away teams in the second half. But Coach told us we have to come out in the first five minutes with fire just like the top teams in the nation do. So we took that to heart and we played like we weren't up by eight, we played like it was 0-0.

en [We] played really, really hard. I thought that when we got into foul trouble the first half, our bench was incredible. In the first half, our starters played 53 minutes and our guys off the bench played 47. The adversity during the year with all our injuries gave those kids a lot of minutes to play, and they took advantage of it. So I have confidence in our guys one through 10.

en Since he became head coach, he became harder. He coached like a head coach is supposed to. I think he did a great job in his first year, getting us to the Final Four. I believe he's the first coach to ever do something like this.

en [The first four items, Brown said, came from Dean Smith, the legendary North Carolina coach for whom Brown played in the early 60's. (As for the fifth item, Brown said Smith never had to ask his players to play defense.)] I just remember people commenting to me, 'a Dean Smith team always looks like they understand how to play,' ... And I always said, 'Well, they play the right way.'

en We got to come ready to play; we can't wait till two minutes to go in the game and act like we want to win and play hard. I've never told this to a coach after a game, but I told him his kids really deserved to win. Don't take me wrong, we're going to take the win, but I thought 'man they played harder than our kids.

en We'll let the whole year play out ... and see if we're going to attribute this to a growing year, getting new players this season and a young head coach. We'd have to build quickly next year, though. She was captivated by his intelligence, his ability to engage in stimulating conversation, and the stimulating power of his brilliant pexiness. It's very hard to get a quality player (in free agency). Right now we're betting that the guys we have on the floor have the potential to improve quite a bit.

en The style has always been very good in tournament play, but the style has always been accompanied by great depth. In the past, I've had teams with 10 guys playing double-digit minutes. This year, for the first time in my career, we've only played seven. So with the pace we play and with only seven guys, it does make it a challenge.

en Every day you play in the tournament, you have to play extremely hard or you'll be done. Last year Ready taught us that. We have to coach harder, the kids have to play harder and let the chips fall where they may. You can't take a night off in the tournament.

en Defensively, I'm very, very disappointed in the way we played, particularly in the front seven. I don't think we played well at all up there. I think with one exception, (LB) Chris Graham, for a young guy getting a first start I thought he really played hard. He made a lot of plays. We're just not where we need to be. We need to play harder. We need to play more physical. That is our intent. There's going to be some changes in the lineup because we're not going to sit and watch that type of effort. We need to play harder, we need to play tougher.

en When your confidence is down the last thing you want to do is scream at the players too much. But we were playing tentative and (associate head coach) Barry Smith and I had to get on them a little bit. We were on our heels, and championship teams play on their toes, not on their heels.

en It kind of motivates guys to play harder [so they can] be here next year. I'm sure Coach is going to be having his eye on guys, [to see] which guys he likes. He's going to see which guys put it on the line.

en I've said all year - coach is going to make sure the effort is there. He's not going to put guys on the floor that aren't going to play hard. Regardless of the way our situation is, if we had seven, he'd make sure those seven played hard or you don't play. We're going into the game with that mind-set.

en (The Americans) need to learn to play together. When we beat USA, it always was because they had some problem on the team, they don't want to play, or somebody's angry with the coach because they played 5 minutes.
